I'm going for the first time to HHN on 10/20. When I bought the tickets I had not idea how intense it was going to be, I recently saw a special on HHN on the Travel Channel. I have to say, I'm pretty intimidated. I'm not one for scares and are kinda of claustraphobic. Will I still have a good time??? I'm going with my sister for her birthday and one of her friends, we're all 40'something.

Help and advice from anyone who has gone to this year's HHN would be truly appreciated.

Not to worry you even more, but being there in person is much more intimidating than seeing the Travel Channel special (particularly if it's your first time). First of all, the Travel Channel's production uses very bright lights on their cameras (I was there once during taping) so the footage you see on t.v. is much brighter than in person, which is EXTREMELY dark at times. Plus, there's the dudes who sneak up behind you and breath over your shoulder for a good 10-15 seconds before you realize he's 1 inch behind you. That element isn't captured by the t.v. production. There's also various other effects and even scents that you can't experience on t.v.

With all this said, I think you will enjoy it. Just remember, it is completely 100% illegal for any of the monsters there to touch you (intentionally). Having that in the back of my mind makes it easier on the nerves.

Well if you don't like scares, this isn't the event to go to. But for the most part, they keep it fun. They're not going to scare you to the point that it's not fun anymore. They can tell whether or not a person is having a good time. Depending on how bad your claustrophobia is, you shouldn't have much of a problem with the houses. They don't have any really tight spaces. Just so you're aware, the Travel Channel special you saw was filmed at HHN 12, which is widely considered one of the worst years for houses (besides having Scream House). For the most part, this year's houses are more elaborate and more intense than what you saw.

I agree with F-L-A about the houses. I've done all the houses this year and the only one I had trouble getting around in was Terror Mines. The others were very entertaining...except Cold Blind Terror...I didn't like that one. ;)

Yeah, no need to worry about tight spaces and such, it isn't that bad. And just do what my aunt did (shes in her mid 50s) and keep telling yourself that you aren't scared and whatever you do, don't look back. (Thats what she said she did, LOL) .. anyway, you should enjoy it, it's all in fun, this year is great and much more intense than what you saw on the Travel channel, though. Some areas are quite dark (more dark than I usually remember) and we were told several times "WRONG WAY! GO THAT WAY!" in character, though. Just watch someone in front of you, grab onto them if you have to, I'm sure the person in front of you (family or not) understands. I had someone tugging on my shirt the whole way through a house on the 1st.

this year i went on three different nights and all by myself.......

yea, it's dark in those houses
yea, things jump out at you as you walk around
yea, they even yell at you
yea, a lot of people scream while they are in the houses.
yea, have to go thru some scarezones to get around the park.

but it was the most wicked time i have had since last year's hhn.

just go and enjoy..........so kewl at hhn
