Never done HHN. Just found out Walking Dead is a theme and my son and I love the show. Would it be worth it to go. What exactly is HHN other than going through houses where people jump out at you and scary people chasing you around. We love horror movies but is it really worth it. We would have to buy airline tickets (about 450), get a car rental, buy tickets (to both HHN and universal), get a hotel room so I would guess around 1,000 for a few days and my son would miss days at college. Is it really about 2 hours wait per house. And finally about how many houses would I really get to go through if I am there when it opens. Any help deciding would be so appreciated.

Is HHN worth it is a very subjective question. Everyone will have an opinion so you aren't going to get a definite answer one way or the other.

I wouldn't miss HHN for the world. This will be my ninth year so it's worth it to me. But...I don't have to spend big bucks to travel down since I live in Orlando. You can do the majority of houses in one night but not everything. You might consider buying Express Plus passes for the evening to ensure you have time.

If you love horror movies and being scared then yes...I think it would be fun for you to experience. The overall atmosphere is fun and not just the houses or shows. Maybe you could look at YouTube for some videos from previous years?

You'll have to decide if it's worth it to you.

OF COURSE IT IS!!!

I fly from outside the USA every year specifically for HHN. Well, I throw in a couple of more days for Disney and stuff, :rolleyes1 but YES, it is worth it.

I see people during the event commenting about how such house was not scary etc... and just walking through the houses waiting for the scareactor to jump up without noticing the setup of the house.

You have to be in the mood. It's not only the scares, it's the decorations, costumes, make-up, the lighting, the sound effects (walls, chains, smells, props). I find this simply amazing! Each house has its story, its purpose... The Unmasking The Horror Tour during the day is an awesome way to learn about the houses..

It's sooo worth it.. IMHO..

Cheers!

It's the premier Halloween event in the country so it's obviously worth it.I've gone to like 17 or 18 of the 21 years so I'm a fan.People might say you can't do all the houses and shows in one night, that would be true if you show up on a Friday or Saturday at 8pm,you might be lucky to get 3-4 houses done.I go every year and always see every house and show. What you have to do is go on a non peak night, the earlier in October the better.Get tickets for the park during the day and stay in the Stay and Scream area which is usually in the street by Finnegans Pub.Only those with HHN tickets are allowed in there as the Universal park closes at 5pm,the other park goers are ushered out of the park.Between 5 and 6pm the park gets transformed and scareactors go to work in the houses. They will allow the guests in the Stay and Scream area to leave around 6pm to do the 2-3 houses that are open at this time, the others will probably open at 7pm which is the time the mob at the front gate starts coming in.By doing the S&S area you can do these houses with little to no wait leaving you the rest of the night to get the other 4-5 houses and the shows like Bill and Ted.I've never had the need to buy the Express pass by doing it this way.

instead of going for hhn in early october, the last two weekends of september will have even lighter crowds..........

thur 9/27 would be an ideal time to go.

Great date! If HoS doesn't fall on that date I will certainly be at HHN on the 27th... and 28th... and 29th... and 30th!! :cool1:

That's about 400 bucks on Finnegan's and booze!

Cheers!

We have gone to HHN for the past two years (so I'm pretty much new to the event) but would absolutely not miss it unless we were flat broke. Last year I even made two seperate, long trips so I could go once with my best friend and once with my family. My DH and kids loved it so much we have decided to make this our only family trip each year! I completely understand the cost involved because it is much the same for us... If you can only go one night, I would purchase express. We go every night that we are there (which this year will cause one of my kids to miss two days of high school and my other to miss one day of college) because I feel like it is a different experience each night. Plus, if it rains one night, we have tickets for other nights so we don't miss anything. I'm not sure how long you'll be there but the Frequent Fear passes may be cheaper to purchase than the peak night tickets with Express. Like the other comments have said, if you utillize the Stay and Scream option, you can get through the houses with no problem and little wait. I can't remember waiting more than 20 minutes to get into a house, but we do go early and don't stay too late.

This is all just my opinion, but as you can see I love, love, love HHN!!! Hope your trip planning goes well. Tickets don't sell out (Express might), so you can always decide whether you want to go or not when you get there and add on to your park tickets then.

:love:HHN:love:

This is the Travel Channel documentary on the 2002 event - while the event has moved to Universal Studios and not Islands of Adventure, it is still a really cool video, which originally got me into this event :thumbsup2

Good find! 2002 happens to be the one and only HHN I've attended until this year, going October 7. I've waited this long to return but there hasn't been a year that I did not wish I was there - that's how great it is. Go, you will not regret it.

YES,EVERY PENNY,OR $$$,I SPEND!!!!!!!!!

DW and I have done this going on 7yrs straight,we would not miss it for anything. We save all year just for this..

It is a must see event you will never forget,I promise!!!!!:thumbsup2

we don't need duplicate threads so i'll bow out on it.

You bet! :thumbsup2

We're planning a 4:00 or so ressie at Finnegan's (8 of us, almost have to make one), get oiled up a bit, then on to S&S area. Gotta do Silent Hill first. . .

As other posters have said it is entirely subjective.........but HHN`s are amazing and if we could be here for it this year we would.

They are so much fun and to us, well worth every cent spent.

We buy EP for the nights we go and it`s definately worth it for us. And do Stay and scream too. I think we did all the houses in 2010 and previous years too with doing those things. Except 07 when we didn`t know anything about anything :rotfl: :rotfl:

This will be our 10th year attending, as others have said, this is our
main vacation. Save and plan all year for this, it is well worth every dollar.

Marquibiri- We will be there the same time , have to meet up.

Hey - we'll be there too! 5, 6 & 7th! (Doing MNSSHP on the 4th).

Absolutely can't wait! Last year was our first year and it will be our yearly trip for the immediate future! Love HHN! (We also slide over to BG Tampa for HoS - we really enjoyed it last year!)

Been to HHN 4 times.. Wish I could go every year.. Walking Dead I'm in going back this year...

I went on-and-off from 1992-1998. I've not missed a year since 1999. HHN is my absolute favorite time of year and I  all the aspects of it.

So yes, HHN is worth it if you like the scary stuff!
