HHN 2014 reviews and trip reports

thought i read it was AVP for the tunnel you crawl thru

HEY Mac!! ;)

I remember there was a low tunnel at the classic monster one two years ago...but there was also a spinning moving (albeit short) tunnel...I first encountered it in Chucky...I have seen it in other houses...they seem to like moving it around...

I can't wait to get there...I missed last year and was so mad about it

1. Where is that crazy tunnel? The one that makes you feel like you are gonna hurl (it was in the Chucky house years ago...)

2. In the video from Dusk til Dawn, they talked about snakes in the house...real snakes??

3. How trashy is DtD...seems to be offensive..

4. How long is the Walking Dead? Like double the lines?

5. AvP and Dracula are the front part of SnS- which houses are near the Woody funzone that are part of SnS?

1.No crazy tunnels this year.
2. They didn't look real to me.
3. I wasn't offended...no more offensive than the dancers in that Penn and Teller House.
4. Not really sure...longer than when they were in the sprung tent and Disaster area
5. Dollhouse and Roanoke are the ones in the Woody funzone. Halloween entrance is by Men in Black.

OMG, that scared me just thinking about it. I have moderate to severe claustrophobia and the thought of crawling through a tunnel almost sends me into a panic attack! Glad to hear there are none this year.

Speaking of claustrophobia, can someone tell me about the conga line type houses? Which are they and do they move along OK? Are there places you can step out if it gets too much? Basically I'm trying to judge if I should pre-medicate.

VERY cool...thanks for the info..can't say I will miss the spinning tunnel...

I remember seeing snakes (very briefly) in the Alice Cooper house two years ago...if they used them at all, I figured it would be like that

That spinning tunnel was pretty open but it sounds like the one where you have to crawl on the floor to get through is in AvP...I do remember it was pretty darn short

I am not expert but I have rarely been in a house when there was no conga line...maybe at the very beginning of Stay and Scream but that is pretty rare...they do move along but I remember a long alley in Silent Hill where my ex was being so slow and I went around him..

I was told in the Behind the Screams tour a long time ago they don't usually give people an out once they are in the house...BUT there are Universal Staff standing around inside the houses...and if it was absolutely necessary, they could get a person out

I would medicate just to be sure..

Medicate, or drink heavily:-)

Is the express pass worth buying? Has anyone purchase it before what was your experience ?
For me, it's worth it. If you only have one night and want to do all the houses, it helps a lot.

I've done it with and without and prefer with...its also easier on my back and feet not having the long waits.

AvP was surprisingly good. I wasn't looking forward to this one but the scares were good and the animatronics were excellent.......near the end of the house you do have to bend quite low and walk for about 15-20 seconds doubled over quite low...I'm sure there must be another exit for those who are unable to do this.

Thanks for this tip!

Then it was straight to Halloween :scared: we walked through the regular queue which took about 45 minutes and it was worth it. Best house I ever saw.

So there is a difference between the reg que and the express? Silly me... I never thought about that since we've always done express  With out giving too much away, what are some differences?

.

I am very claustrophobic as well and was worried about the houses, tunnels, crawling or anything like that.

I was fine on all the houses last year except the one that was 3-D (can't remember the name) and it had a spinning tunnel. I just skipped that one. A US staff member told me there was a route around the spinning tunnel for those who could not walk through it, but I did not want to chance it. As others have said AVP has a spot where you have to walk bending over, I will skip this one unless there is a way around it.

I never felt claustrophobic in the houses, the line kept moving very well. I could see lots of US staff/security and even the ceiling in some of the houses.

I loved HHN last year and was surprised at how much I liked the houses.

ok, i used the wrong word i should have said a netting at the end of AVP you have to crouch under to get through to the end.

there will be an alternative way if you can't crouch over for that end section.

"The Sacrifice" is simply a staged scene within the Bayou scare zone that takes place in the shack that was built where the barn was last year. I believe it is scheduled hourly on the half-hour.

The Voodoo Queen what I'd call the featured character in the scare zone. When we encountered her last night, she was licking something from the side of her hand. Assuming it was blood (this was just a few minutes after the sacrifice), I asked if it was chicken or goat and her response was "Human" if that is any indication. It was the beginning of quite an interesting conversation. I'm hoping to watch the sacrifice at some point on Friday.

Thanks PammyK!

This is why I love to read the DISboards...loads of useful information to make a great trip even better. I'll make sure to be in the Bayou on the half hour now:scared1:.

Sharky the regular queue is just outside........no extras or anything special........just rows and rows and rows of people crammed in line waiting to go in the house.

Much preferred when we went through the express queue.........so no difference.........just do Express :thumbsup2

Trying to decide on express or not for HHN this year. For those who went last week what is the wait difference between express line and standby

:thumbsup2 Got it, Thank you!

FYI: The Hogwart's express going from Hogsmeade to Diagon alley stops a little before 5 pm on Halloween horror nights.

just left the park a bit ago (9/25). Perfect weather conditions - relatively mild and dry while I was there after a few sprinkles earlier in the day. Maybe because of that it was a bit busier than I was expecting for a Thurs, although lines weren't bad for lesser mazes - walked in to Giggles, 15 min for Dollhouse etc. However AVP (which opened at 6:00 when they released the holding areas) and Halloween were quickly up to 45 min and climbing, and Walking Dead was 90 min when I last went by, so it would be tough going to see all of those without Express, apparently even on the slowest (?) day of the week.

We went last night - Thursday Sept 25th with express pass. We started at Halloween a little before 7pm. We were able to see all 8 houses, go to both shows (Rocky Horror and Bill&Ted) and ride MIB and the Mummy. We stopped to drink twice but didn't eat. We hit our last house just before they started closing the lines down for the houses (around midnight). IMO, without express pass there is NO way you're going to see everything in one night.

Thursday would normally be considered a slower day, but the event is still in its opening week, so it seemed busy even last night.

I don't remember our second time going being as crowded as opening night the last few years, but this is the first time we've gone twice within a week of opening.

Finally got to do AvP last night after using Stay n Scream, and it's definitely the showstopper of the year in my book. The sets are gorgeous, the puppets are incredible, and the house is just down right eerie. I think one of my favorite houses of the last three years.

Bill & Ted is pretty much the same as always...I know some were saying it was so much better than previous years, but I didn't notice

We also did the RECON compound mission last night, and won! The "field agents" are super friendly, and we got a pretty sweet prize bag! The clues weren't impossible, but they're apparently going to get harder throughout the season. That's fine by me. It was fun. If I only had one night to do everything, I'd probably skip it. If you have multiple nights, go for it! Our squad will definitely be playing again!

I loved Halloween and Walking Dead. Was pleasantly surprised by Dollhouse of the Damned. Bill&Ted and Rocky Horror shows were great especially due to audience participation and enthusiasm. AVP was elaborate. The Purge was awesome and creepy when they started auctioning people to kill. The 2 that were just eh for us were Roanoke and Dracula.

I also loved the definite American feel of HHN. Not to cause trouble, but after dealing with 3 days in the parks with certain folks that line jump, push without excusing themselves, and just generally don't have a clue on how to behave in a crowd, it was nice to be back with my nation.
