Hi all - We're at HHI now (leaving tomorrow unfortunately). I've about taken all the pictures I'm going to take this trip, so thought I'd post the link here -

HHI Pictures - Sept. 2014

We've had a great trip. It is me, DW and DS39. Our unit is 1921. We had requested marsh view, but checked in late on Sunday and with it being Labor Day weekend the resort was at full capacity, so ended up next to the marina. It was okay, because it was such a short walk to the car. I did get a little irked at checkin, because when I saw we didn't have marsh view I mentioned it to the not so friendly CM. She said well I didn't request it. The thing is I did request it with the online checkin. She said I must have messed up or something happened.

We've only been to the beach once for sitting. Frankly it has been very hot and I just don't enjoy sitting out on a hot beach. But we've sat around the pool a number of times. The crowds were heavy at first, but have thinned out considerably since Monday. Place has been very quiet, which I like.

I thought I'd mention where we've eaten.

Sunday - San Miguels.
Monday - cooked out on the grill behind our building.
Tuesday - Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House in Savannah (our absolute favorite place to eat when at HHI).
Wednesday - Lunch - Signals, Dinner - Scott's Fish Market.
Thursday - Lunch - Bluffton BBQ, Dinner Giuseppe's Pizza.

Not much to say about San Miguels. Okay Mexican food, but nothing to write home about. But it is our tradition to eat there the first night of every trip. This was our first time to eat at Bluffton BBQ. Mike at the pool recommended it and it was absolutely delicious. I told DW, this will become part of our regular routine to eat there. We don't usually eat at Scott's but rather at the Old Oyster Factory instead. But we decided to give them a try this trip. DW had the crab cakes and DS had blackened scollops. Both were delicious. My oysters were just okay. For Mrs. Wilkes we got there at 10:30 and were seated around 11:30. Well worth the wait though. I could eat here everyday.

Anyway, if you have any specific questions, I'd be glad to attempt to answer them.

It's been a few yrs since we've been there. But I can envision sitting around the pool instead of the beach. I love that pool with all the tropical plants!! We've eaten at San Miguels, Scotts, and Giuseppe's. I really enjoyed all 3. We're on the school schedule, and since our youngest is only 9, we will be for a long time---very jealous that you got to go in September. Before kids, dh and I always traveled for our anniversary which is 9/9.

I really love that resort when I can just walk around, and look at all the fishing birds and other critters. Sounds like a great trip!!

Wonderful pics!! And amazing to see hardly any people!! We go either during summer or spring break over Easter so the resort is pretty full of people - would never be able to take a pic without anybody being in it!! LOL!

Loved looking at them, we just love this resort and HHI!! Glad you all had a nice trip!

Tomorrow well make us home for a week from there. We loved it wasn't sure how my boys would like it but they loved it. So we plan on going back next summer. I wanna do a one bedroom but hubby said we were fine in a studio.

Pics look great and we are heading for our Stay Sunday. We will be in a 3bdr Villas since additional family coming in from Ohio. What i like about this resort is the grounds look the same every time you come back and the nice relaxing atmosphere.

These are great. We just got back from here Sunday :(

Where and what is picture P9010035?

Thanks, Wolfpackfan. I was there in June and Big Murgies had not been redone. Did you like it?

I definitely liked the new décor in the one bedrooms, but still missed some of the nostalgic original touches.

Mike the Pool Guy always has some great recommendations!

Sorry you met a grumpy front desk cm.

I want to give a little bit more info about Bluffton BBQ, because we had never eaten there before nor had I seen it mentioned here. In a word, it was absolutely delicious. It is on 46 in the historic area of Bluffton on your right. It is a very small place, in fact inside it only had maybe nine tables and outside maybe another 5-6 tables. It is counter service. The BBQ has a very smoky, hickory taste. It is not SC style nor NC style BBQ. We had the pulled pork plates and it was a huge portion. You can get it either with or without sides. I got one side of pinto beans that were delicious also. It would be a great place to stop by after maybe going over to Savannah and getting an order and taking it back to the resort. Anyway, I just wanted to let everyone know about the place as I hadn't seen it mentioned. Mike at the pool recommended it and you know if he recommended it, it has to be good.

Thank you for posting this! DH and I are going to HHI in January for restaurant week. We've never been and I have no idea how to plan or what we are going to do while there. Do you have a copy of the activities guide? Thanks for the Mrs. W and Bluffton BBQ recommendations.:thumbsup2

I would love a copy of the activity guide, if you have it. Just planned our first trip for next May and would like to get an idea of how much time we think we will be at the resort/beach vs in Savannah, etc.
