HHI: SPring vs. Summer vs. Thanksgiving?

Trying to figure out when we should shoot for HHI. We are a fam of five (2 in school) so we are kinda limited on when we can travel. We are BWV owners, so we are looking at the 7 mos window. I know this can be a hard resort to get at times, but we would be looking for a 2BR (which is what is most prevalent at HHI). I should note that the 7 mos window is approaching FAST for the March timeframe (like, this Friday!) The August timing is our 15th wedding anniversary... maybe have a private affair to celebrate? (The meal... not an actual affair! I'd like to make it to year 16 and happily ever after!!) And all of turkey week is a vacation for our kids here in WV,so at least we wouldn't have to pull them from school.

You left out my choice -- "all of the above"!!!

We have been there at all those times and have loved them all.

For you, I would recommend trying for the August timeframe, due to the anniversary, and see if you can get "A Private Affair" with Chef Gordon. Since schools in the South will already be back at school by that time, you should have a better shot at getting it at 7 mos. than earlier in the summer. The resort takes on a whole different tone in late summer, once schools start, than earlier in the summer, but you will love it!

My second choice would probably be Thanksgiving. We have been at the resort for thanksgiving almost every year since it opened! Can you tell we kind of like it? You won't be able to enjoy the ocean, but we have been there a few times when air temps have been in the 80s and the pools have been wonderful.

My third ranking would be spring -- not because I don't like it, but because I just happen to like the other two times even more!

I voted for August for the same reasons as Disneyaholic. Easier to get a ressie at 7 mos...and less crowded because the kids here in the south go back to school in early August. Assuming you are looking forward to some beach time, this is also your best choice. Heed the warnings, though...it will be HOT and buggy.

Thanksgiving would be my second choice. While the weather can be hit or miss...you have a better chance of dry, warmish weather than you do in March. More resort activities...Christmas shopping at the outlet malls, etc.

March would work...but nothing to get excited about.

While I'm sure HH is fun in the winter...the whole area kind of shuts down compared to summer. I think a beach cottage with a fireplace would be a must have! Someday I want to treat my extended family to a Thanksgiving trip there.

I'm a BWV owner too and a couple of years ago I traded with a HHI owner and we both made 11 month reservations for each other. I wanted to go over Easter vacation and he wanted a standard view room. It worked out well for both of us because neither of us would have been able to do it without trading. You really should consider it. A lot of people want to stay at the BWV and I'm sure you could find someone willing to trade on the rent/trade board.
