We are headed to HHI for our 20th Anniversary for a week over Labor Day. We got HHI for Mon-Fri, but could not get Sunday, bur we are waitlisted. Anyway we were going to do Fri-Sat in Savannah and the go over, but now looks like another night in Savannah. As this is over Labor Day prices seem even higher than normal, so does anyone have any suggestions. If we are going to pay a lot, I want to at least have a good choice. Any recommendations more than welcome.

Also suggestions for dinner in HHI for 20th.

We spent 1 night in Savannah the last time we drove to FL. We needed to stay someplace to use our Starwood account so our Star points wouldn't expire (we were planning to use them on our trip to Aulani & Maui). We stayed at the Sheraton near the historic district. It was OK. The room was a little on the small side but it was an easy 5-10 minute walk to River Street and the entire historic area. I booked dinner at Paula Deen's restaurant and we walked there in probably less than 10 minutes too. If you have a Starwood account you may be able to call and get a member rate or something? Since we wanted to get up early and hit the road the next morning I booked a deal that included the buffet breakfast (it was a similar setup to what you would find at a Hampton Inn or something but there was supposed to be a made-to-order omlet station. We were the first ones down when it opened and the omlet maker guy wasn't there yet so we didn't get omlets. :( )

We are doing Savannah for a couple nights before HHI in May and have booked the Springhill Suites in the historic district. Reasonably priced for the historic district and a good location. Reviews look nice.

There are a number of places in the Historic district such as Hampton Inn, Courtyard and the like. There are several Marriott owned properties including a regular Marriott. Personally I'd try to arrange a direct trade with a Bluegreen member for the Studio Homes at Ellis Square though it looks like the availability is hit or miss.

Thanks everyone, just seemed so expensive over labor day wwekend, figured I would check with dvc, and the member cash rate for a 1 bedroom was within a few dollars of savannah rates without the 25 parking charges, doing 2 nights cash and switching 4 night from studio to 1 bedroom for less cash and about 50 more points. Now we can just settle in an day trip to savannah when it works best. Thanks for the input, prices were just crazy in comparison to dvc 1 bedroom.

We stayed in Savannah for a night prior to HHI a couple years back. It was our anniversary trip too without kids. I highly recommend staying in a bed and breakfast. We stayed at one near the house that is used in the movie "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil". It's such a beautiful city and very walkable. It's such a historic town, I really liked staying in the old houses with history. We also did a ghost tour one night and loved it. My biggest recommendation would be to stay away from Paula Dean's restaurant. It was disgusting. All grease and both my husband and I felt gross after eating there. In Hilton Head, we really enjoy Skull Creek Boathouse. It's not super fancy, but we love to eat outside and it has a beautiful view and sunset on the creek. Have fun.
