I cannot get the search function to work here...to see if some of my questions have been addressed already, so if these questions are redundant, my apologies in advance.

We've not been to HHI before, we'll be ariving late Tuesday night for a 6 night stay in a studio. DH, DS (age 16) and me.

We're usually pretty good at planning things in advance, but have been too busy to do so this year.

I'd love recommendations of things to do and see while there. I know we'd like to do a Dolphin Cruise. Is that something we should do in advance? And any recommendations of an outfit to go with? Do we want to do the resort's cruise (do they even offer one), or a different one?

Does anyone know if the golf courses offer a beginner golf lesson? We're all interested in doing that.

Anyplace else that we might enjoy going, doing or seeing?

Restaurant recommendations?

Also, we're from cool Seattle and would love ideas to beat the heat (or at least tolerate it).

Lastly, any activities at the resort that you'd recommend? Especially for a 16 YO?

Thanks a bunch!

We went to HH for the 1st time last month. It was me,DH, DD 13 and DS 10. We also stayed in a studio. Just to let you know, the little onsite restaraunt closes at 5:00 pm. You can't get a drink or food on site after that. There are some nice restaraunts within walking distance though. The Kingfish, Scotts seafood and San Miguels. All very good. Any cruises, fishing, kayaking ect. I would book when you 1st get there. For your 16 year old, they do have a "teen night". My daughter chose not to do it but I think it was like pizza and pool party type stuff. It is very, very hot! Bring very light clothing. The beach is Great!! You can rent a beach chair with an umbrella for the day and also boogie boards for playing in the waves. It's a very laid back place. I hope you enjoy it!!

We were there in Oct. last year. While DH played golf (sorry don't know about the beginner lessons - but ask at the desk. they are very helpful about all things golf!) one day I took a tour from the resort around the island. Very informative about how it all came to be. I think they offer it on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Again ask when you get in. They will give you a list when you arrive of all the activities.

We are headed there in four weeks and one of the things we are going to do is take a day trip to Savannah. There is a cruise boat that leaves from Sea Pines (?) and goes to Savannah and then returns about four hours later. total time of trip is 9:30 am - 4:30 pm. So there is about four hours to sight see in Savannah. Sounds like fun to us.

It is a great place to relax.

Enjoy your stay. Please let us know what you decided to do for activities when you return.

Things are starting to slow down in HH with the southern schools starting up. I don't think you'll have much of a problem booking excursions.

There's a teens only kayak trip you can book through Outside Hilton Head. Or do a trip with the 3 of you. We booked last week and the groups were pretty small, which was nice. Outside HH leaves from Shelter Cove Harbour, but the opposite end from where Disney is, so drive. It's by the Ocean Grill restuarant. Ask about the special rate from that location---$40. 2 hr. tours for only $25! You usually see dolphins up close and personal from the kayaks.

Heat. You'll die coming from Seattle. Try to get up early and do stuff, siesta in the heat of the day (or see a movie or something in a/c), and go out again in the evening. A lot of times the beach has a nice breeze which makes things more managable there.

Lots of yummy restaurants. Pick up the restaurant guide, available lots of places, free. Has menus and prices. Check out the early bird specials. There's a thread on this site dedicated to fav. restaurants, try a search.

Rent bikes!

You can visit Harbour Town at Sea Pines Plantation and climb the lighthouse. There's also trail rides there if that interests you.

Have a great trip!:sunny:

Thank you for the information! I'll let y'all know what we end up doing (and not), and whether we've melted from the heat and humidity :sunny:
