*HHI Owners and Beach Lovers Group Thread*

For anyone thinking of renting bikes at the resort, please be aware they are not currently renting them. We arrived today and went to the recreation desk to rent 4 adult bikes using a discounted Disney GC but were told they are refurbishing the bikes. They could not give me a date when they would start back. It was a bummer because I would not have bought the GC if I had known. They did direct me to call Wheelz, a rental place on Executive Park Rd. They honored the Disney price even for length of stay and gave me a 20% DVC discount. They delivered the bikes shortly after 2:00 and that was after I called at 11:24. They told me they do two deliveries each day, one around 10:00 and one around 2:00. I hope that helps anyone with future reservations. You may call to check to see if the resort has started renting them again before you come.
They had a bunch of bikes sitting out that you could see as you walked up the ramp to Tide Me Over.

Glad the other vendor is honoring the price although it stinks you couldn’t use the gift card. You can always use it for your dues although certainly not as fun.

Sorry you didn’t have the opportunity to rent the bikes on property, bc it does make it so convenient! However, I’m glad to see they are refurbishing the bikes they have. The last few times we’ve done a quick ride for the day on the resort bikes, the quality was so poor that we now prefer to get bikes delivered from a local shop.

Going to go to HHI for the first time for spring break 2026 with grandparents, parents, and grandkids! Looks a bit sleepy; I can see us swimming in the pool and taking a quick dip in the ocean and maybe doing a dolphin tour. What else do you recommend? This is our alt to Aulani since nobody was keen on the long plane ride.
Given you're going for spring break, the ocean will likely be quite chilly still as it doesn't get to be a comfortable temperature (for most people) until May. The pools are a good bet, though they will shut those down if the "feels like" temp is below 50F which is possible at times during March and even early April. Dolphin tours are fun, as are kayak rentals which you can do alone or with a tour guide. There are several mini golf courses in the area which will be open. And, yes, the activities at the resort can be fun, as well, especially for the kids.

HHI isn't Hawai'i, for sure, as its reputation is built on a "low country" vibe--slower paced, family togetherness, sitting on the balcony sipping coffee, playing yard games (several around the property), watching nature, and exploring the island. One of the best ways to do the latter is rent bikes as there are something like 100 miles of bike trails that pretty much take you any place you want to go including the beach 1.5 miles away.

You don't say which accommodations you have, but assuming you'll have a 2BR, I'd definitely recommend requesting a top floor and water views. Top floors reduce the noise from other guests, and water views allow you to see more wildlife as the tide comes and goes.

Not sure when your Spring break is but that 'quick dip in the ocean' will be very quick in Feb, March, April and even May, unless you happen to be a Polar Bear.

The pools thankfully are heated and my grands go in any time of year, although if the weather drops below a certain number, I remember them being closed.

The hot tub is usually open and available.

It is a bit sleepy, absolutely but we always enjoy it. It's laid back with friendly Cast members, and lots of dining off site, although with a kitchen we tend to hit Publix - I meant Kroger, and actually cook. There is also outlet shopping, a few museums, some cultural spots and the ocean adventures, usually fishing or looking for dolphins. And golf, can't underestimate that. Mini golf also. The kids can go crabbing off the pier. They will sell you crabbing stuff at Rec for a very nominal price. Used to be $5 for the pot but not sure now.

My kids enjoyed the basketball 'spot' when they put it in.

Another option is thrift shopping for those who enjoy it. I've gone a few times but haven't scored any roadshow finds, lol.

I've enjoyed the nearby Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge, although be alert that there are Alligators on the land. There is also the Savannah Refuge not far away.

With 28 years of visits, we've also added in downtown Savannah visits as well as Charleston visits, usually before or after.

One caution - don't let anyone accidentally leave any food on your balcony as you will probably have a midnite visitor. In our case it was a banana - later we figured out it was a racoon. They climb.

Enjoy!

Great tips; thank you! We've been thinking of going into Savannah or Charleston as well.

Yes; definitely intended as a quick polar bear plunge, to say we did it. My kids are very hearty northerners but I'm sure they will run in and run out and be done!
