*HHI Owners and Beach Lovers Group Thread*

Iger announced yesterday at the shareholder meeting that there are no future plans to build any off site properties.
Disney will have different leadership around 2042, so it will be interesting to see about DHHIR.
Funny, I would think they'd be more apt to build off site properties given the tediousness and overarching expense to visit the parks anymore. That aside, I am curious to see what 2042 holds given I own at one of those properties. Of course, by then, I likely won't care. pirate:

Good Evening all. Anyone know if there is still a pool table in the main building of the resort?

Is there a splash pad at the beach house? I don't remember seeing one when we were there in 2023, but I have seen pictures online of one with giant beach ball features. Wasn't sure if they were old pictures of something that wasn't there anymore.

The picture that you are referencing was taken around 2018-2019. It was not there last summer and would have been nice to have as those bricks get HOT!!

Heading to HH for our first trip in 2 weeks and want to put in a room request for our one bedroom. It's just my husband and I. I'd prefer a dedicated 1 bedroom second floor. Does that sound like a reasonable request. I dislike 1st floor rooms and from what I've read most of these rooms exist near the main building lobby. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

No dedicated 1 bedrooms.

There is nothing that is truly 1st floor there is at least a few steps up except for buildings 11 & 12 that are on the second floor and most likely where you will find your room.

1BR, 2nd floor is quite reasonable. As mentioned by eticketplease, all rooms sit at least one flight of stairs up, including those in Bldgs 11 (main lobby bldg) and 12 (attached to 11). There are five 1BRs scattered throughout the resort in the GV buildings which are 16, 18, 19, 28, & 31. Those 1BRs all sit on the bottom floor, though once again, they sit one flight of stairs up. I don't recommend asking for a 1BR in those five buildings because they sit under a GV, and noise from those above you is a constant threat (in one configuration, the GV kitchen sits right above the 1BR).

All the other 1BRs are in 11 and 12, including two that sit behind the lobby. Your odds of getting a 1BR on a higher floor are quite good. However, I would still call the resort directly at least a couple of weeks out and make your request in person. They have a few dedicated CMs who work on room requests, so talking with one of them is the best way to go. That doesn't mean you'll get exactly what you want, of course, but it can't hurt. ;)

If your desire to be on the second floor stems from a desire to have no one above you, be aware that if you request building 11, the second floor does have a floor above it (and I know from experience that you can experience some very loud footsteps above you). In the Main Lodge, or what's called building 11, you want to request the third floor or top floor.

I want to share my excitement about our trip to DHHIR for Thanksgiving. Now, we "have to" stay an extra day.:tigger: The day we had originally planned to come home had incredibly high prices when the Southwest schedule came out yesterday. Out of curiosity, I checked the next day, and it was so much cheaper I was amazed. So by staying an extra day, we're saving $530 for 2 people! And an extra day at HHI.

Thank you, I just called and requested top floor In either building 11 or 12. I appreciate your suggestion!

Not sure of this has been discussed already in this thread - my apologies if this is repeated information.

Please be aware that a beach renourishment project is starting soon on HHI:

https://hiltonheadislandsc.gov/beachrenourish2025/

The central and southern portions of the beach are slated for work from September 2025 to May 2026. Only small portions of the beach will be “closed” at any point as work proceeds down the beach. The exact time any specific beach access area ( such as Disney’s beach house) will be impacted is not provided.

Please look at the photos and videos of previous beach renourishment projects provided at the link above.

My family loves HHI and spend hours walking/playing/biking/relaxing on the beach each day. We usually rent a house/condo as close to the beach as the budget allows.

While we understand the importance of the project, we are choosing to delay a multi-family trip as we do not want to risk being impacted by the project.

They removed it and now there is one at the Beach House. Not sure if it is the same one or not. The story was that it was difficult to get people using it in the evening to actually leave at 10pm quiet time as there are rooms adjacent to that end of Big Murgies. I always thought that adjacent room was an office, but was not interested enough to check it out.

I just dislike when amenities get deleted from any of my resorts.

Now we have a big room with a checkerboard. Morning coffee and checkin cookies were still being served - still love it here!

We stayed in the 1 bedroom behind the check in desk once, my son and his friend loved it. They played pool the whole time 😂

There used to be one at the Beach House and one at Big Murggie's. When they took the one out of the latter, I don't know if it wound up replacing the one at the former or not, though the BH one sat outdoors for years (albeit under the covering) so wasn't in great shape. And, yes, getting people to leave the lobby area at the start of quiet hours there was an issue. However, the easy solution was to put away the balls and sticks each evening which they did at one point. My guess is just wanted to turn the den into more of a meeting/gathering spot than "pool hall." I do hate the table in BM's was removed, though.

The adjacent rooms consist of two 1BRs and two studios, as well as an office space. That office space was once a break room, but it was converted to an office space back in early '22. I assume it's still the same now.

I'm with you. I hate it when a beloved resort changes to what I feel is to the detriment of the feel and theming. While I think the cabins at WL are lovely, to make way for those they took away the nature path and natural beauty of. . .the "wilderness" Lodge. Some people now love the character dinner at WL, but when I bought in there, it was Artist Point, one of the best signatures on property. Change is hard. ;)

Artist point was the first sit down “date” dinner dh and I had at wdw about maybe 20 years ago. It was delicious. We were very upset when they converted it to the character meal and have not gone there since!

Yes, it used to be my go to romantic spot dinner with the bonus that VWL is my home resort. I've not been back since the conversion, either. And never will.

I don't 'personally' miss the pool table. I did play a bit with the very young kids. My now 40 somethings played when they would come. We have a long history at DHHIR resort with first visit being in 1997, about 25 Thanksgivings spent there, some Xmas and Easter visits, summer beach visits, and now mostly fall and winter visits. I also used to bookend many of our WDW trips with a night or two either going or coming depending on time.

I don't see having the table at the Beach House as a substitute (funny - I do remember a ping pong table there) since the Beach House closes at 8 (usually unless there is a function?). It was something to do, especially on darker nights after having or returning from dinner. It's too bad they didn't just move it over to the pool area under cover or to Community Hall in lieu of that ping pong table. Maybe there wasn't enough room, I'm just second guessing.

Big Murgie's Den used to have more activities, mostly centered around a certain character. I know the appeal had dropped as time passed as I remember going on a couple of visits and no one showed up. On one occasion I was dismissed and on another later visit I was entertained a bit until I left. Hopefully they will eventually come up with an idea to bring in some sort of entertainment that appeals to some of the adults and maybe a Rec led idea that is fun for kids, not necessarily character based. Not everybody wants to just hang out at the Big Dipper pool all evening and sometimes it's just too cold.

My 4 grands who range from 2 months to 9 years have been visitors since age 6 months for the oldest. They even traveled alone with me in the January to April timeframe when it was easier to pull them out of preschool after my retirement. They still love this resort and will be going later this year.

Change is hard, I agree, especially when something is a hit like Artist Point used to be. I had several great meals there with family. However, have to admit it wasn't on my rotation for a long time, so much so that I missed it was gone for some time and actually thought the character meal was an addition. Really paying no attention and had no need for character meals.
Now wondering was there a decline in attendance that caused a reimagining?

During stays at Wilderness Lodge back when I wasn't afraid of a fall, riding a bike to the Fort was an event. Youngest DD eventually was old enough to ride alone and would come back reporting on deer, turkeys, armadillo on the path.
We also tent camped there for a couple nights on some resort trips and I once used excess points to book the old cabins. Last December stayed in the new cabins and loved them! Now I'm stalking to add a couple nights to one of my trips!

Also I may be one of the few people who enjoy the Fort yet are waiting for LL to be opened. Won't buy but will stay.

Yes, they did have a pingpong table at the BH, though I think perhaps it has disappeared. Someone can verify that, I'm sure. I used to find the balls on the ground since the railings did little to impede the ball from dropping. I did often tell folks that the short cut to go get the ball was go through the door just behind the table which put them out right at the stairs to the bathrooms. However, if they did so, their partner would have to let them in since the door locks automatically. Or, I'd say, don't let them in and declare yourself the winner!

I hated losing the nature trail (and then the paved biking/walking path) at WL as I used to run both when I trained for various races. Yes, I saw deer, turkey, armadillos, and once a hawk sitting on the ground, prey in its talons. I particularly like the nature trail as it was sandy and quieter. And, you could run all the way to the CM parking lot at FW, too, via that nature trail--it hugged Bay Lake. One evening years ago, I wanted to see Wishes (remember that?) from a spot along the trail that appeared would give clear views of the fireworks. I walked down there only to run into a half dozen CMs in their golf carts whose presence verified it was a great spot. We all watched the show together, and they offered to take me back to WL. I declined, but what fun they were!
