Heading to Hilton head in a week and was wondering if anyone can let me know about the closet place to buy groceries? Do they have Publix in South Carolina?

Also, can anyone recommend nice family restaurants in Hilton Head? I have kids aged 5,3,3 - so we're interested in hearing not just about places with kids menus, but where they ensure there is stuff for kids to do at the table (supplying crayons etc.).

There are two Publix stores on Hilton Head. The one that's closer to the resort (near Sea Pines Circle) is smaller, but usually has everything we need. The other one is near the Wal-Mart.

When you check into the resort, be sure to ask for a restaurant guide with menus. This will help you decide where you will want to eat. Almost all restaurants are casual attire and kid-friendly. Few take reservations, but at this time of the year, you shouldn't have too long of a wait. During the high season, some even have entertainment for the kids, but I don't know that you will find that in March.

Enjoy your visit!

I haven't been to a lot of restaurants but there is one on Pope Ave called Aunt Chilada's that has a wide variety of food. It is the only place where I have seen crab legs on a children's menu, which worked out great as my daughter loves them. Go to the Sea Pines circle and go 3/4 of the way around it's about 0.8 miles down on the left.

I agree the Publix at Sea Pines circle has all the basics you'll need. They have good fried chicken at the deli counter. That is about 3mi from the resort.

We ran to the Piggly Wiggly just down the street from the resort. I've lost my sense of direction, but it's toward the mainland (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). It's only a few minutes to get to and had everything we needed.

All of the restaurants we went to had crayons/kids menus. We were 3 families--so 7 kids in tow. We ate at the following:
San Miguels
Steamers
Marley's
Salty Dog
Kingfisher

It's a very kid-friendly place!

The Piggly Wiggly is in the Shelter Cover Shopping Center. It is on the left as soon as you leave Disney. Everything is regular price, not resort price. There is also a Wal-Mart, Home Depot and Target. You don't have to bring anything. Everything is there. The best place for beach and fishing gear is the Wal-Mart.:yay:

Hilton Head does not believe in big street signs. A GPS comes in handy.

Guseppi's (sp?) Italian Restaurant and Pizza Place is very kid friendly and delicious. We are big on italian food when we order in or go out to dinner and we were very happy to find a place as good as those here in NY!

San Miguel's is just across the water from the resort, there's a few restaurants there. We ate at San Miguels and it was very good, very kid friendly, service wasn't great though (could have been a "off" night, we'd try it again).

Have a great vacation.

We very much like the Brick Oven Pizza Place that is in Park Plaza. Signe's is also good eats!

I have always been happy with the Grill at the resort. Specially if Joyce is cooking. She is magical!

Hudsons is my favorite HHI restaurant (by far). They have a kids menu w/crayons (and a coupon for free Pirate Cove golf). There are big windows overlooking the water and we saw dolphins while we ate. There's a marina with fishing boats you can walk around and look at. In the summer they have a clown making balloon animals for the kids. There's also an arcade. Plus - they'll pick you up and take you to your car in a golf cart if it's crowded.

I agree that Hudson's would be a fun place w/ kids. Also consider the Crazy Crab, the one on the north end of the Island, not the one in Sea Pines. Marley's near Sea Pines Circle is good for kids. In Sea Pines at the South Beach Marina, the Salty Dog is a fun place for kids. And, in season, there is live entertainment. Mellow Mushroom is terrific. It's on the left near the entrance to Sea Pines. You can eat there or carry out.

The Publix near Sea Pines Circle is very good. Across the street from there is a Harris Teeter's that's also very good (I like their meats better and they have a nice selection of wine.) I do not like the Piggly Wiggly.

The GPS thing is a good idea. HH has codes regarding signage, building colors, etc and the signs are small and the buildings are hard to find, especially in the dark. I've been down there every year for the last 15 years and still have a hard time finding some stuff.

We love Stickey Fingers. There's a great little pizza joint (that's right, I said joint) called NYC Pizza that's very good. The best supreme piaas we've ever had. The Salty Dog was better for lunch than dinner, imho, but bothw ere good. We always go to the Pancake House for breakfast before leaving.

The place just over the bridge and to the left as you leave the resort, Kingfishers I think, was found to be over priced and not very good, I'd skip it.
