HHI is COLD in January!!!!! Trip Report

March is usually nice, sometimes a little rainy. Warm days, cool nights. The ocean will be swimable (if that is a word). My wife likes to hit the beach on St. Patrick's day. If you are coming to Savannah for SPD, the parade will be on March 14th this year because the week of the 17th is Holy Week.

April is a little warmer and that's when the Sand Gnats will come out in force. Make sure you have Avon's Skin so Soft with you when you come. Make a solution of 50% SoS and water and wipe it on. They'll stay away.

Need more? PM me!

Do you know if the Shelter Cove area is also closed in February? We have a trip scheduled for next month and are talking about changing it and heading to somewhere here in Florida instead.

Hi everybody!

I live in Bluffton, (next door to HHI) SO I can answer some of your questions. Conan is right about March- it's normally very nice- However, you never really know what you're going to get between Dec and April here. I had an outdoor wedding at the end of March ('06) and it was in the low 50's at midday- which is pretty darn cold if you liive south of Charlotte. Ok if you have jackets on though. But last year on our aniversary the weather was nice.. (well, now that I think of it we may have been in WDW on our anniversary...)
But mostly you have to watch out for the rain. April, May and October have the best weather here- hands down. (Though technically October is still hurricane season).
OP is right about that week in January- it was literally freezing temps overnight- but the next week we were back in the 70's and everyone was out riding bikes and playing golf and kayaking etc. (Except me- I was at work!)
It's so much fun to read your trip report and comments! Thanks

Most of the shops and restaurants in Shelter Cove are independently owned. I know the Kingfisher is closed for the season, (my sister was working there for a while). A lot of the places will open if the weather is nice, or if there is a holiday weekend- but I would expect thngs to be relatively quiet until March 1st. There are still a bunch of really great restaurants in the area though if you will have a car with you.

PottersMom,
DH, DF and I will be on HHI 2/16 and we will have a car - so we would like to go to a restaurant where the locals go for good, down home, comfort food. DH and I have done the tourist spots, we can do the chains anywhere, we've done Savannah and after driving up from WDW I know I won' be able to get him to drive back to Townsend, GA to go to Pelican Point. Can you suggest someplace we might enjoy?
