This is a mini-trip report.

We just returned from Hilton Head! We were there for the week of Christmas. It was awesome!

We arrived on Saturday, Dec 20th. We stayed in a studio for the first four days, then a two-bedroom the next four days.

When checking in, I requested a marsh view. Little did I know that almost EVERY SINGLE view at HH is a GREAT view. The courtyard view is beautiful. You look at trees and hammocks. The pool view is GREAT. THe pool closes at 9 pm, so no one is loud and rowdy at the pool at midnight. The marsh view is pretty too. When we moved from the studio to the two bedroom, our only request was to be close to the pool. We had amazing rooms both times, but in my opinion the courtyard view is just as nice as the marsh view and the pool distance should be your priority.

The rooms were all very clean and we had not a single problem. Not one.

Now, to the meat of it. I think HH is like a cruise for the landlocked because of all the activities. I had no idea that there were activities like on the cruise ship. I had read that things were offered, but had no idea that it was so similar to the cruise offerings.

When you check in, you are given a list of activities. There is an activity every few hours for a wide range of ages. Games and presentations and trips and walks are offered. You simply need to call and reserve some of them, but others do not require a reservation. Some things cost money, but for the most part, things are offered and then ifyou choose to participate even further, you can pay a nominal fee.

We found ourselves doing much as we did on the cruise. We would check the activitiy page for the day, go do the 10:00 am thing, come back and eat lunch, go to the 2:00 thing, come back and relax, then go to the evening thing.

The activities included a Behind the scenes tour of the resort, a Marsh walk, a beach walk, a presentation about Mars, a presentation about shells, a presentation about sharks, and so much more. (I only listed the free ones, there are so many others.) There are approx 6 things to do per day.

We LOVED Christopher!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kory, Jessica, Melody, Holly, Diana, Shawn, Jamie, Krystal, Mike, Stefano, Kathy, and all the CMs. They all seem to genuinely like working at this resort.

We loved getting to meet Shadow. We were not there for B'Lou's Magic Show, but we met him when he told us tales about Shadow around the fire one day.

On Christmas Eve night, there was a knock at the door, and a CM was there to give us a bag of candy from WDW, enough candy for the three kids. And a card from Mickey. What a nice surprise!!!!

Santa was at the resort to talk to the kids. He was such a great Santa!

Again, you could do some activities, and then go back to your room. You could participate or not. This was so similar to the cruise. We only needed the car to go to the grocery store.

We are addicted to HH now. For the laid back atmosphere, for the CMs who were never once cranky or impatient, for the activites, for the scenery, etc. It reminded us of some of the very things we like about cruising with Disney. Something for everyone!

Let me know if you have any questions! I am happy to answer.

SHEESH!! Some people just can't keep a secret!! ;)

Thanks for the great report- glad you had a good time. Your assessment of the room views is right on too.

Thanks again!

(Thanks Doc)

Oh yeah...P.S.

The resort has a funny smell to it. The minute you cross over the bridge it wafts into your car and into your clothes. You can't get it out! So, the best advice is to just stay away from the DVC HH resort during the times I want to be there.

I loved the title to your post! We were booked to do our first Disney Cruise in March, but due to circumstances beyond our control (health issues with parents, job circumstances) we had to cancel the upcoming trip. With the beauty of DVC, we booked the time at HH instead. We have been there the past two Aprils, and actually were disappointed we were not going to be there this year. So now I will just think of it as a land-locked cruise!

yes, Hilton Head is wonderful!!! It makes you just want to add on. I'm sure that pretty soon DVCers who haven't bought points at HH (we have!) will be lining up to do so.

HH does have that effect, doesn't it. Our first trip to HH, we added on the first couple of days we were there -- called our guide by the end of the first day. The next trip -- another add on. Our third add on at HH happened before our 3rd trip there -- we were hoping to be able to book a 2 bedroom with the extra points but the wait list never came through.

Now we have enough for a 2 bedroom every summer for 6 nights (that 99 points for a Saturday night is a bit hard to swallow:eek: ). Although, DH does talk about spending 2 consecutive weeks at HH during the summer. So, we may not be done yet.:teeth:

GoofyDisney, I've noticed that smell there too!!;) Happens every July when we are there.:D

Great trip report!

We are trying Hilton Head out this summer and can't wait. It sounds great.::yes::

Your trip report just adds to my excitement. I was able to book a two bedroom for the week of July 17th (me, DH, DD11, SIL, BIL, and their two girls 17 and 13), and seven months seems so far away.

Glad you had a wonderful trip - thanks for the post!

I also love HHI for all the activities... when I was there a year ago October, we never left the resort, not even to check out Harbor Town (or what ever the main town is... lol) So much to do, and yet nothing to do.... Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh

Hi,

Mom & I love HH too!!!! Thanks for the report!! Can't wait to go back in May 2004.

We LOVE Hilton Head. I have a friend who has a condo down by Coligny Plaza and she was looking at my vacation pictures and asked Did you guys EVER leave the resort? I thought about it and said, you know not really-just for dinner. LOL
I think I am more excited for our June vacation there than I am for our October WDW vacation! Did I just say that!? It's true! :bounce:

I have to agree with Doc.

I usually tell people that HH stinks;) . That way, I won't have any trouble booking.

Our room was one of the last buildings facing the boats. While I am sure that the marsh is nice, it was actually quite pleasant watching the people get on the boats and watching the boats come and go. My own little marina. We were able to hear the music from the other side. Enjoy some wine and music, see the boats, all without leaving my deck.

My friends said that we wouldn't like being one of the last buildings. We rented bikes for the lenght of stay and it was very nice to ride throughout the resort even when we went off premises.

The kids loved the activities. I preferred one particular activity. Getting a pina colada, sitting around the pool watching people come down the slde and reading a book.

DW and I have been having a disagreement about booking the DCL this year. I simply said that if it doesn't get booked by the middle of January, I am calling and making a 7 month window reservation for HHI. I will be just as happy. I think I am in a win win situation:Pinkbounc .

Happy New Year.

Makes me want to book a trip there - SOON!

Sounds similar to Vero Beach. (activities, etc.) I really enjoyed that about VB.

You see what we started. Now we have another person interested.;)

every time I see a thread about HH, I HAVE to read it. I just can't help myself! I just love it there. The kids love it as much as WDW.:teeth:
