This is a mini-trip report.
We just returned from Hilton Head! We were there for the week of Christmas. It was awesome!
We arrived on Saturday, Dec 20th. We stayed in a studio for the first four days, then a two-bedroom the next four days.
When checking in, I requested a marsh view. Little did I know that almost EVERY SINGLE view at HH is a GREAT view. The courtyard view is beautiful. You look at trees and hammocks. The pool view is GREAT. THe pool closes at 9 pm, so no one is loud and rowdy at the pool at midnight. The marsh view is pretty too. When we moved from the studio to the two bedroom, our only request was to be close to the pool. We had amazing rooms both times, but in my opinion the courtyard view is just as nice as the marsh view and the pool distance should be your priority.
The rooms were all very clean and we had not a single problem. Not one.
Now, to the meat of it. I think HH is like a cruise for the landlocked because of all the activities. I had no idea that there were activities like on the cruise ship. I had read that things were offered, but had no idea that it was so similar to the cruise offerings.
When you check in, you are given a list of activities. There is an activity every few hours for a wide range of ages. Games and presentations and trips and walks are offered. You simply need to call and reserve some of them, but others do not require a reservation. Some things cost money, but for the most part, things are offered and then ifyou choose to participate even further, you can pay a nominal fee.
We found ourselves doing much as we did on the cruise. We would check the activitiy page for the day, go do the 10:00 am thing, come back and eat lunch, go to the 2:00 thing, come back and relax, then go to the evening thing.
The activities included a Behind the scenes tour of the resort, a Marsh walk, a beach walk, a presentation about Mars, a presentation about shells, a presentation about sharks, and so much more. (I only listed the free ones, there are so many others.) There are approx 6 things to do per day.
We LOVED Christopher!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kory, Jessica, Melody, Holly, Diana, Shawn, Jamie, Krystal, Mike, Stefano, Kathy, and all the CMs. They all seem to genuinely like working at this resort.
We loved getting to meet Shadow. We were not there for B'Lou's Magic Show, but we met him when he told us tales about Shadow around the fire one day.
On Christmas Eve night, there was a knock at the door, and a CM was there to give us a bag of candy from WDW, enough candy for the three kids. And a card from Mickey. What a nice surprise!!!!
Santa was at the resort to talk to the kids. He was such a great Santa!
Again, you could do some activities, and then go back to your room. You could participate or not. This was so similar to the cruise. We only needed the car to go to the grocery store.
We are addicted to HH now. For the laid back atmosphere, for the CMs who were never once cranky or impatient, for the activites, for the scenery, etc. It reminded us of some of the very things we like about cruising with Disney. Something for everyone!
Let me know if you have any questions! I am happy to answer.
