I don't live that far from HHI so I've vacation there on and off through the years (was there in April, actually), but this is the first time my family has rented a home in Palmetto Dunes neighborhood. I understand it is right near (or encompasses?) the Disney resort there.

What I do know is that our rental house has beach access - it's an 8-10 minute walk. I also know that the house "offers access to the Disney beach which has an outside snack bar, showers and restrooms."

Does that mean the resort allows people in this community to just get to the beach via their access or we can actually use some of their ammenities? I don't want to overstep my bounds, but the house ad almost sounds like Disney gives this neighborhood a few privelges? Or maybe people just do it anyway without asking?

Please clear this up for me. Thanks!

Having just stayed in PD.

The Disney beach house has parking for PD visitors in addition to Disney guests. You can then walk to the beach. The beach house is built around a pool and you can't go into the courtyard and use the pool etc. However on the left side (facing the building from the parking lot) there is a window to the snack bar and some bathrooms. There were also Disney CM's with a "drink" stand (cokes, water etc) etc set up near the beach exit.

You can also rent the umbrellas/chairs on the beach. It's the same folks that do it all up and down the island.

As opposed to "Disney giving" privledges I think it was actually the other way around. As part of PD allowing Disney to build this thing they had to provide public access and some "features"

The Disney resort is actually across the Highway over by Shelter Cove.

I actually thought that after I talked it over with my husband (he worked on Daufuskie for a few years). Thanks so much for the information!

You will not be able to actually use any of the Beach House facilities (restaurant, bar, bathrooms, pool, etc) unless you have a room key. You may be able to get to the beach by walking beside the Beach House but that is about it. There are no facilities outside of the Beach House itself.

Many people who rent their homes in Palmetto Dunes advetise that the use of the Disney beach house is included! Imagine their surprise when the Disney CMs do a room key check and they are "asked" to leave!

Disney's Beach House is located at one of he public access areas for the beach and there is parking for the public there. In addition, as Carol has stated, there are public restrooms available and there is a outside window providing opportunity to purchase food items from the Signals snack bar at the Beach House. There is also an outside shower available to wash off sand before getting back in your vehicle.

Guests at Palmetto Dunes are welcome to use these public facilities (parking, restrooms, shower and snack bar), but will not have access to the pool area, the "bar" or the interior tables at Signals.

There is another public access area about 300 yards north near the Moorings - also with parking, restrooms and outside shower.

There are bathrooms and a window to the snack bar that the public can use on the left side of the beach house. (I used them a few weeks ago)

I have to say I didn't know that. I was thinking the snack bar and bathrooms were a floor up. I've never walked around that side, but I did not know you could get up there. I did notice the snack cart last month. First time I'd seen it out there.

They are a floor up - but have access via stairs and elevator to that area - without the need to enter the Beach House itself.
