Hi all,

Thinking of booking a 5 night trip to Hilton Head the last week of February/first week of March, our Winter break. We went last year for Spring Break (last week of April) and had a fantastic time.

Is there much to recommend going at this time of year? I'm not expecting warm beach weather, but what kind of conditions/weather might we expect, and will the pool be comfortable? How "open" is the rest of the island this time of year in terms of restaurants and things to do? Will the resort offer a full slate of activities?

Thank you so much for the input from the HHI experts on this board!

I'm bumping this up, hoping someone can answer this for you. My husband was concerned about what would be open when we go at the end of October this year for our first trip. I don't think we have anything to worry about in regards to late October, but I'm not sure about Feb/Mar. Hopefully someone will know!

If you use Facebook, there is a Facebook group you might like to join. It's been helpful to me during the planning of my first trip - https://www.facebook.com/groups/DHHIR/

We went the beginning of March one year, then the end of February the next. The reason we changed is that at that time, most places raised golf rates March first, and DH LOVES golf. Most everything at the resort goes on year round, but there may be fewer people attending activities. I went to two activities where I was the only one, but it was held anyways. Almost all restaurants are up and running-a few have shortened hours in the winter, but they're usually back at full throttle around Valentine's Day. Almost definitely too cold for the beach, but there's plenty to do at the resort. And the only time we've seen Dolphins right behind the Main Lodge was in early March. We don't go at that time anymore only because we've discovered/loved Thanksgiving there.

Too cold to swim, but not too cold to be on the beach. I’ve had some fun times bike riding and kite flying on the beach in January through March. You can hit cold spells when the wind chill is too much, but you can also hit mild/warm ones where you’ll be quite comfortable, even in shorts.

My in-laws live on HHI and I’ve visited many months of the year. In early January some restaurants will close down for a week or two, but everything is generally open the rest of the year, albeit it with some places having a slightly scaled back operating hours compared to the warmer months.

Oh, yes! The water might be too cold, but walking, bike riding, etc. on the beach is always fun. And you might be treated with dolphin sightings. This was the ocean right behind the Beach House-
