We are planning to take an off-shore fishing trip, but we would like to do a little fishing while we are at the resort too. We like catch and release and we are prepared to purchase non-resident fishing licenses too, but before we pack our gear, I want to make sure that fishing is even permitted around the resort. It's been 4 years since we have been there so my memory is fading, but I was thinking about areas "behind" the main building and also the area where some people have spotted manatee (in the summer), by the bike path to the beach house?? Would shore fishing be permitted in those areas? What about anywhere along the "front" of the resort? Any other areas to check out that are within (reasonable) biking distance?

Fishing from pier is definitely allowed. But, I *think* I remember "no fishing" signs posted in other locations.

I would absolutely call the resort directly - what might have been ok during the "Before Times" may have marginally changed during Covid - they'll be able to confirm everything.
I don't think you need a license for catch and release, and you can fish off the pier for sure.

But again this was from 2019.

I know that I've seen people fishing behind the main Lodge, but I don't know if it was OK I just know that no one stopped them

I would call the resort to confirm if anything changed. However we were there a month after they reopened last summer and only one group at a time was allowed to fish from the dock at that point. Not sure if anything changed since ten.

We were there in October, and there were no restrictions for using the dock.

In the past, our DSs have been told that they could not fish anywhere on property except the fishing pier. The place they used to love to fish (where they used to put kayaks into the water) has been filled with large rocks to keep people away from the water.

Fishing and crabbing definitely allowed at the pier. I have noticed the occasional person fishing from along side the jetty to the right of the bridge leading to the resort, as well as along the bike path where it leads underneath the Wm Hilton Pkwy. Can't say that those people were legal or not, but they were out in plain sight on more than one occasion. As others have said, the front desk may be able to answer your question more clearly.
