I noticed on the calendar that we are scheduled to check into HHI in 2 and 1/2 weeks. Any guesses as to when DVC will provide an update on opening? We are on the fence about going, but would love to make an informed decision. Should we expect some kind of notification? The reservation is still showing up on our account. Thanks in advance for playing along and any insight!

May I ask from which state you will be traveling? Per the Governor's Executive Order, reservations cannot be accepted from guests residing in/traveling from New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. However, this limitation does not apply to guests providing essential services.

I thought that is only FL, not SC where HH is located?

The hot spot restrictions in SC were lifted as of today. They covered short term rentals to people from “hot spot” areas including NY, NJ, CT, and New Orleans, who were also subject to a self-quarantine order.

Not sure Disney will reopen as quickly.

We would be traveling from Tennessee. That is interesting though, I wonder how that can be effectively administered regarding those states. No essential services rendered though. We would just be doing a lot of curbside to go if we decide to go and tennis! :PWe would be pretty comfortable going; however, I just don’t know how you can do social distancing at the pool (which is fabulous and a huge draw for kiddos)!

I think it is possible, no idea about probability though! I believe the HHI resort closed after WDW resorts.

you are definitely right. They closed after but not long after the WDW resorts. I had a reservation for HHI in March and the day of checkin was the day it closed (i'm still sad about it)

I’ve been wondering the same thing as we have a trip coming up there in a month (rescheduled after April was cancelled). Would the beach be accessible if opened? I saw that locals can go to the beach but I wasn’t sure if HHI has a direct access.

We just had this conversation! I *think* we qualify as owners, correct? That does feel like a stretch though.

Being an owner of a property does not give you the ability to use it if you don’t have a reservstion,

Ive not been to HH, but if the beach is a private one, then only resort guests would be allowed, If it is public, then all would be allowed.

We stayed at DHHIR once and then stayed in a condo from VRBO that was right next to the Disney Beach House twice. The beach is the exact same so if it's open, it's open to everyone. You can also visit the Disney Beach House but will not be allowed inside the pool area. However, if you have a hankering for a Dole Whip or a Mickey Bar, you can purchase those at the window outside :-) I guess this is all assuming they are going to be open, which I don't know the answer to.

Yes! I was thinking if you are there on a reservation that you could access the beach as technically you are an owner (even if a portion of a property.)

It is great, right! We have reservations at HHI DVC in 2 and 1/2 weeks, but everything is still up in the air. The dole whip cravings are strong right now!!

Disney has a beach house on the beach with access. Beach access is open for all property on the beach

I hope for your sake that you were notified of the closure in advance so you didn't get there and find out.

Fortunately, our reservation there isn't until November, so we're hopeful. But still nervous.

So if the resort was open tomorrow legally guests would be able to use it? Wasn’t sure with regards to the city ordinances.

Good afternoon Hilton Head Islanders,

With Governor McMaster's rescinded orders on short-term rentals and self-quarantines, it appears we may be working towards recovery efforts. Orders the Governor issued late last Friday afternoon:

* Permit restaurants to offer outdoor dining service, in addition to existing take out, curbside, and delivery services, as of today. Restaurants must follow guidelines for social distancing, seating and sanitizing.

* Allow short-term rental companies to accept reservations from individuals residing in or travelling from any area subject to or identified in a CDC travel advisory or other CDC notice as a location with extensive community transmission of COVID-19.

* Lifted requirements for certain individuals coming to South Carolina from an area with substantial community spread of COVID-19 to self-quarantine or isolate for 14 days or the duration of their stay.

* Made the work-or-home order a voluntary measure.

We still have to take precautions to avoid spreading the virus. Please continue to wash your hands, wear your mask in public and practice social distancing.

Yes - DVC Member Services was very good about our points and what happened to them- we just love HHI so much it stung not to be able to go.
