How hard is it to get a 1 bdrm seven months out for July 4 weekend?

I think that it's nearly impossible. There are few 1BR villas to start with, and that is the most popular time of the year at HHI. We were able to stay using the 7 month window this summer, but we went in the second half of August and stayed in a 2BR.

OT, a little: Our one and only DVC regret is that we didn't buy points at HHI before it sold out. We added 100 BWV points to our 300 at OKW, and if I had it to do over again those 100 would have been HHI points. We travel off-season to WDW, so it's easy to get into any of the DVC resorts. But we want to go to HHI in-season, so it would sure be nice to have an 11 month booking window there.

We were able to get a studio on a Friday and Saturday nights on short notice this past summer. That's because under normal circumstances Fridays and Saturdays are not sold out at HH, even in the highest seasons. (That high weekend point thing. ;) ) But with July 4 being on a weekendin 2004, I have the feeling it will be an entirely different story.

You might call MS now, just to see if there is still a 1BR available, even though you can't book it. That would give you time to see if you can figure out a way to trade for some HH points or something, or to know that you need to come up with a backup plan.

Good luck.

Do you have enough points for a 2-bedroom? We got a lovely 2-bedroom for this past July 4th week, no problem. Boards regulars advised me that these are easiest to get. I called early each morning and the room was WELL worth the points. We had friends stay with us and they were quite impressed... If you can cover the points, you can get a 2-bedroom and waitlist a 1-bedroom if the one-bedrooms are already gone.

Good luck. I can't wait to go back to HH.

What about other times in the summer if called right at 7 months for a studio?

HH in summer (mid June to mid August) is very difficult for DVC or timeshares (even hotels) in general. While the last year or two, there have been success stories, one should assume that summer at HH will rarely be available at the 7 month window. July 4th is the peak week so I'd agree with nearly impossible. It's one of those weeks you should call day by day at the 11 month window. Good luck.

Hi Jimbo, I love Hilton Head Island as well, I currently have 2 contracts at Hilton Head and the one is 100 points with a June Use Year. I would be interested in trading my 100 point Hilton Head contract for your 100 point BoardWalk contract. Are you interested at all?My other Hilton Head contract is for 300 points and that is all the points I need for Hilton Head at the moment.

Maybe. Let me think about it. My contracts have an August use year, if that matters (does it?).

I do not really care what the use year is.

I have got a quick question? What if Jimbo and I decide to switch contracts, how is this done? Do we just call member services and they do it? I am wondering how it all works.

It's basically a process where you are each "selling" your contract to the other. Two times ROFR, closing costs and the like. You can get the cost down to likely about $500-600 total but that's still a lot. DVC themselves will charge two transfer fees of $100 each. If there are any outstanding loans, they will need to be paid off prior.
