I'm sure the DVC boards are full of this kind of topic, but since I didn't see one recently, I thought I'd start one just in case anyone else is interested. We got back last week from HH where we stayed in a 2BR for the first time. This was the first time we had a kitchen also. We loved the unit and did find ourselves using the kitchen a fair amount of time. Having said that there were some things I/we missed having on hand, in addition to what Disney supplied. Here are a couple of things I wished we had taken -

1) Some dish clothes and additional dish drying towels. There were no clothes to wash dishes with and only one cloth to dry dishes with.
2) A better spatular. The little plastic one supplied got kind of messy turning eggs. Plus it was hard to clean.
3) Extra coffee and filters. I found myself cooking breakfast every morning and they only supply one coffee and filter set. In fact, I got one of those coffee pod machines for Christmas and when we go back in August, I may just take it with me. We're driving and it doesn't take up much room in the car.
4) If DVD players are not installed in all the units next Summer, I'll probably take my DD's portable DVD player and cables to hook up to the TV along with some movies.

One thing I won't take as much of next trip to HH is food. There is a great Publix grocery store just down the street and I thought the prices were very reasonable (in fact Diet Cokes were cheaper than what I pay at home). I'll just wait until we get there to buy groceries.

Anyone got any other items, they wish they hadn't left home?

1) A good pair of "beach shoes" for each of us. We forgot to bring some and ended up buying a pair at the gift shop. Man did they hurt!

2) Don't laugh, but I wish we would have taken less of an attitude. It was our first trip as DVC members, and DW and I seemed to be caught off guard with DVCHH. I guess we were expecting it to be like the WDW resorts.

Looking back on it ....... we loved DVC HH! It was very soothing to the soul.

We go to HH in the summer, so a beach umbrella, chairs and sand toys are must haves for our family. A lot of times I bring the kids' bikes and rent for the adults. Needless to say, we drive our own car there!

We are going to take our own fishing gear next time and I think we will get a bigger/better beach umbrella. We always take the boogie boards! I took beach shoes but can't get the kids to leave them on even after witnessing a boy get his foot cut pretty badly...
Can't think of anything else since the WalMart and Publix are so close! Just stop and pick up whatever you forgot to pack! :cool1:

I say this after every DVC trip - I'm going to make a DVC trip bag. One that I keep on hand and only pull out when going to a DVC resort. I'll put in a dishcloth and dishtowels, coffee filters, salt, pepper, ziplock bags, tea bags, and bounce sheets and detergent. I'm sure there are other items I'll put in the bag, but I won't remember them until I'm there and don't have them! Our coffee maker at home doesn't use the filters that the DVC coffee makers use and so every time I buy a box of 100 filters I can never use again and then throw them away instead of bringing them home! Last trip in December, I went to SuperWalmart to do my grocery shopping after arriving at BWV and the coffee filters were packaged in bags of 300!!!!!! I walked all over the store to find the small - 100 count package! I almost got mad walking around the store, but then I thought "hey, I'm at Disneyworld - who cares!"

A good non-stick pan. Nothing like making scrambled eggs and having most of them stick to the pan.

We always take our crock pot too. There is nothing like tossing a roast into it in the AM and coming back from the beach to an almost ready made dinner. Toss a salad and some bread and dinner is served!! :cheer2: That's my kind of cooking.

We always take the boogie boards and beach chairs too. We like to bring a kite to fly on the beach -- especially at night when it's empty. The kids love to bring their sand toys and this year, DS10 will be bringing his metal detector he got for Christmas.

We like to take outdoor type candles for the picnic table on the balcony- ( we also bring some indoor candles too!) I like to bring along a small cd/radio to keep in the villa, great to turn on while lounging in the whirlpool!!

The picnic table on the porch was pretty dark without some sort of light so next time we'll take a lantern or something to use when we eat outside. Also for us a Frisbee is an ultimate neccessity for the beach.

I agree! We have a mini lantern that will work great!

I wonder if the balconies at Vero have a light? Hmmm...might have to watch the slide show...again! :cool1: I'm getting lots of good ideas for our April trip to VB too.

Here's another one.

A night light. The rooms can be dark if you get up during the night. My DH actually "met" the hopechest/seat in the master bedroom one night with his foot and flew into the wall. So, now we pack the night light.

I do keep a plastic crate of stuff for Hilton Head. (Also use it when we drive to WDW, but lately it seems we've been flying more often.)

I keep a plastic tablecloth for the outdoor table, as well as a rechargeable lantern (think I got it at Target, but have seen them in several places).

Kitchen stuff -- exactly what depends on how long the trip is; same with laundry stuff. Oh, and pop-up hampers! One for DH and me and one for the kids to use. (Somehow our stuff finds its way to the hamper more easily than the kids' stuff...)

I always buy the large (2-1/2 gallon?) containers of drinking water at Publix when we get there and immediately put one in the fridge. I'm not crazy about the taste of the water at HH and consequently, the coffee tastes funny, too. The large container of water also cuts down on the need for as many of the more expensive bottles of Dasani!

I wish I had read this thread before I left for Orlando... I managed to remember the coffee & coffee filters (easy...I've gotten picky about coffee lately). But definitely forgot the salt and pepper despite talking about them.

For a studio room we take more kitchen supplies including napkins & paper products, real silverware, steak knives and a bread knife, cutting board, plastic wrap and foil, zip lock and/or sandwich bags, coffee & filters, tea and sugar. One or two coolers are always with us as well.

For the beach, definitely 1 or even 2 umbrellas.

For HHI in general we bring the fishing gear and crabbing nets and assorted beach junk. (Yes, we are the ones running all over the vbeach collecting our stuff that blows away and gets washed out witht hte huge tidfal change. :earboy2: )

Other than that, we stop at WalMart to get all the stuff we forgot to pack!

We just got back from HH lazt night, and next time we'll definitely bring our own soft, 2-ply toilet paper. That one-ply sandpaper just isn't a good thing! A few days into our trip, we made a trip to Piggly Wiggly just to buy toilet paper.
