I've made ressies for the weekend of January 19 for two nights at HH - just to go down and check the place out to see if we might want to make it our home resort when we join. My question is, are there any special things/places to see and do in the area during January? Also, I was kind of disappointed that since we will be talking to them about joining DVC while down there; there were no special offers (free nights, dinners, etc.). Usually when we go to Myrtle Beach we are bombarded by special offers just to hear timeshare spiels. They did have one offer of a free night, but you had to spend three nights there and we can only spend two. Also, any recommendations on restaurants in the area would be greatly appreciated. We especially like seafood.

John (wouldn't it be something if we came back as members of the DVC, it's not completely out of the question)

I've done a trip report from my recent visit. It does include some ideas on things to do and restaurants. I would advise Chef Gordon for one evening ( gives you a chance to look around a grand villa as well as a great meal) and The Old Oyster factory as the other choice ( a 10% discount for DVC members and guests :) )

Hi Wolfpackfan! It's your favorite cheerleader from the sidelines (lol)! You will have a wonderful time when you go to Hilton Head. I am so happy you are considering my home for your home (big grin). Anyway, I'd like to give you a word of warning first. Make sure you have an ink pen handy for signing on the Mickey's and palm trees because my bet is you will be sold on the place!

Also, my family stayed at Hilton Head without any incentive "deal" and I was surprised our first full day to have a message from the preview center offering us $100 food credit to hear the timeshare presentation (of course I had already planned to make a call and schedule one but this just made it all the more sweeter) so maybe something like this will happen to you. One of the tv channels shows the DVC video non-stop and I mean literally 24 hours over and over again and at the end it instructs you to dial (40 or 50) from your villa phone to schedule a discovery tour so if you do that, you may want to inquire about the food credit. Its good at several area restaurants including Tide Me Over, the counterservice place on-site, and its also good for Scott's Fish Market right over the bridge as you're leaving the Disney resort to your right. We had a good meal there and for the three of us it was about $75 so we used almost the entire $100 credit in one place.

As far as activities go, the pool is heated to I think 80 degrees and quite a few people were making use of it. The beach house is great and I think the pool was heated there too because quite a few people were using it. It's shaped like an "H" and was cute. The beach house is nice as well because it has a fireplace, large screen tv and quite a few tables and chairs for playing checkers and cards. There's also a ping pong table at the beach house and of course there's the ocean! We walked on the beach and even dipped our toes in the ocean, it was cold but fun.

Back at the resort, there's lots to do including spending some time at Big Murgy's Den which is in the main lodge building. They had cookies and warm apple cider and a fire going most days. There is also a pool table, checkers and tv in the room with old books and rocking chairs. We always had a good time there. There are also activities scheduled each day that you can take a part in including dolphin cruises, kareoke and campfire sing-a-longs.

Off site, there are outlet malls, restaurants to sample and golf to name a few things, plus lots of people were riding bikes all over the island so if the weather is favorable that's an option too. This stuff might sound boring but we had a lot of fun doing "old fashioned" things and can't wait to go back to relax again. I was so relaxed that it took me a day or two back at work to get "up to speed" and get back in my "rush" mode!

I'll end this because it is getting really long but if you want some detailed trip reports to read on Hilton Head click on this link http://www.mouseplanet.com/dtp/trip.rpt/ and there's a section called "All Other Reports", click on Offsite DVC and you can browse through 20 or so reports on the DVC resorts including many Hilton Head reports by Sue Holland.

Hope this helps ya' and please report back and let us know what you think of the place.

Lisa

Lisa I MUST have seen you at the Pool table my DD Caroline was there most nights LOL. There can't have been that many English people at the resort LOL

There was a family at one point that was in the Den with us with the cutest accents. I believe we exchanged smiles and they seemed so friendly I wanted to ask if they were DISers but I was too shy (not a quality I usually possess believe me!). Next time, I'll definitely be wearing my lime green ribbon, it would have been nice to say "howdy"!

Wolfpackfan,

HH is also my "home" so I too welcome you, and am confidant that you will enjoy ... it's a wonderful place. I will just confirm what the other postings have all ready shared. I have eaten at both Scott's Fish Market and Old Oyster Factory. You certainly would not go wrong with either. Scott's is convienent as it is a simple walk from your resort, and you should make the walk anyway to check-out Shelter Cove which is the shoppin/entertainment area directly across the harbor from Disney. Old Oyster Factory is a short (5 minute ish) drive, but the view of Broad Creek is pretty neet!

I wish you a good weekend, and maybe in the future can send you a "welcome home" as a "neighbor"

HH is also my "home"! We have only been once thanks to my wonderful sister and her husband taking us there in Aug '01. They are members and we were going to wait and join this Jan '02 but decided after we saw it that we had to be apart of the "magic"! Although we also recieved the incentive of 100.00 in food coupons, since it was our last day we had a BIG lunch at Signals at the beach house!

The Old Oyster Factory was wonderful! It was the best seafood I have ever had!

Have fun!! I am sure that you will have a wonderful time!

WolfpackFan,

My wife and I will be there the same period. We found something really nice to do last January on our visit...we got married on the boardwalk in front of the DVC Beach House at sunset. We'll be there celebrating our 1st Anniversary. One of our favorite winter activities is the spa...hotter than a pool and a chance to visit with other guests. I've had very good luck being able to play golf at least once each winter trip and am bringing the clubs this year.

There's plenty of activities and you could never get boored in a two day visit. You'll never get to do all you want to even. We like the Kingfisher, right across the bridge from DVC and The Big Bamboo, but it is usually closed for meals during the winter months.

A brisk walk on the beach is always in order too.

Tommy,

(this is a little off topic for the thread ... sorry)

I just have to thank you!!

I appreciate the time that you have spent on your web page. It is a wonderful resource. I have used your page (and links) to organize my last two trips to HH. I admit, I've also gone to your web page when I've missed "home" just to reminisce. I have also referred to your page in postings to this forum.

I just wanted you to know that your work was appreciated.

Thanks!

Tig

Tommy, I'd like to echo Tig's sentiments! I printed off your jacuzzi 101 pages and had them handy for that first all important dip in the tub and I'd like to let you know how much my hubby and I appreciate all the hard work you put into your site. Your efforts are very very much appreciated!

Thanks to TIdoublegaER, ZerasPride, Doc, and all of you who enjoy my DVC HHI site. I do it because it is fun. I am an "editor" by nature for this site and just collect things from others like Doc who do all the hard work. I just put the facts together for lots of the items. I listen to what people are asking and go out and find the answers and post them.

I go there quite often myself, just to click on the Beach Cam link and see what is going on.

FYI - I did a search engine check for Disney Vacation Club Hilton Head Island, and my site comes up higher that Disney's. :) :)

Am headed to HHI for the middle two weeks of January and with two weeks there, should be able to "collect" some more interesting things.

Hi Dave, that would have been us :) .

It's a shame we didn't all get to meet up, there seems to have been quite a few DISers there at that time. I did put a notice up here to try and organise a get together, but no one responded :(.
I'll try again next time I go down. I think I'd get chef Gordon to cater and try to have it in the grand villa, I'm sure he'd do a wine and cheese evening or something similar.
