I just read someone's trip report on the tugboard and they are talking about the jellyfish in the water in July and August, saying it is unavoidable.

What can you do to prevent the sting? Is it really an issue? Thanks

There were a few people who got "stung" by jellyfish while we were in HH last week.

The lifeguards keep a spray bottle of something (not sure exactly what). A solution of vinegar and water is supposed to help; maybe you can keep that with your beach stuff. I have also heard that meat tenderizer (like Adolf's) is supposed to be beneficial. Our family has been fortunate enough to have not experienced them firsthand, so I can't tell you whether or not these remedies really work...

Problem is the sharks like the meat tenerizer ;)

We had no problem last year. But I am sure it is a year to year thing, too.

We were in HH the last week in June. One of the kids with our group was stung by a jellyfish within an hour of getting in the water. The lifeguard had something they sprayed that helped. It did make all of us leary about going back in but we did go in ...all day all week and no one else was stung. Luck of the draw.

Last June while we were there, DD was stung by one. The "stuff" in the bottle the lifeguards keep on hand is vinegar and water. Also packing wet sand on the site helps take the sting out. She stayed out of the water for about 10 minutes, dried her tears and was ready to go back again.
