Has anyone gone to HH in February? If so, what's it like? We're not interested in the beach, so it's OK that it's not warm enough to swim. But is it OK for bike riding, walking outside without a jacket? We're looking at February, primarily because DH wants to golf, and we're thinking golf rates might be lower then than in March or April. Has anyone golfed there in February who can verify this? And how busy is the resort? Activities? Are the resturaunts on the Island all open or do some not open up until March? Anyone who's gone in February-I'd really appreciate your comments on experiences.

February is one month we haven't been to Hilton Head, but based on the weather we experienced at HH last week, I wouldn't take anything for granted, LOL. (Last week was rainy and unseasonably COLD!)

I would imagine that the activities at the resort are probably offered less frequently than at other times of the year, and are subject to cancellation for lack of sign-ups. (We ran into this this past January) Many shops and restaurants on the island don't open until late March/early April, just before the Heritage Golf Classic.

If golf is an absolute "must-do", you might want to consider another time. But you could also end up with sunny days and 60º temperatures! If you just enjoy HH and can find other things to do, I'd plan the trip, anyhow

We were there in February 2002 for 2 nights (15th throught the 17th). There were some activities planned for kids, but mine did not participate in those. We did go down to the evening campfire, which was fun. The weather was cool(around 60) but sunny one day, a little drizzly the next. My kids went out in shorts and sweatshirts, I remember wearing jeans and a sweatshirt or light jacket. There were people in the pool on the nicer day, but we didn't swim. We didn't golf either, so I can't help you there, sorry.

We didn't have any problems finding places open to eat. I just remember the snack bar at beach house being closed. I am not positive, but I think the snack bar at the resort was open with shorter hours.

The best part about being there in the off-season was walking along a deserted beach. There were only a couple of other people out there, so we pretty much had the beach to ourselves. I remember watching a family of dolphins swimming pretty close to the shore with no one else around. It was very cool! There was also nobody at the beach house when we stopped in to check it out, so we had that to ourselves also! The funny thing is the one couple that we stopped and talked to on the beach that day happened to live about 20 minutes from us and worked with someone we know!

We are going down this summer over the 4th of July, so it will be interesting to compare how different the resort is during peak season. We had a great time in February, however, and I would definitely head back down that time of year again someday.

We were there over President's day weekend in 2002, too. My DH, FIL, and Uncle golfed. Mouseclick was right about the weather, 60's but DS went into the pool with FIL. We didn't go over to the beach, but FIL did and said it was nice with a sweatshirt on. We had a great time and enjoyed the off season, not crowded feeling at the resort and on the island. It was a great relaxing time, just what we needed in the middle of the winter!

We are native SOuth Carolinians and I can tell you the weather does vary. We were in Hilton head Feb 2003 and we had one beautiful day (70s) and one rainy day (50s). The good thing is the resort and the restaurants are a lot less crowded. Also, for some reason the shops seem to offer greater discounts at this time since they are closing out their winter merchandise so shopping is good in Febraury. Hilotn head is a beautiful resort. Although I said I would never buy at Hilton Head since I lived there for 2 years, we have just added on at Hilton Head! The Disney resort is truly like no other on the island since it stresses nature as much as it does the beach. If you do go make sure that you do many of the activities there as they are a lot of fun.

"The Disney resort...stresses nature as much as it does the beach"

That is so true! And now I understand why we loved it there so much. Thanks for the explanation.
