After going to HH the past 6 years in March or April, we are going for the first time in the summer this year -- the week of August 17th. Will there still be fireworks? What other events activities will we be able to enjoy that we have not yet experienced with our spring trips?

I don't know about activities - but the ocean is really, really warm by August!!

This time of year is a little less crowed do to school starting.Just down last year this same date but rented a home in Sea pines.

I've just got fired from HHi, wanted a studio Aug 7 to 15, called yesterday no vacancies... Is it always the same?

Normally we go to VB at that time of year, we always had availabilities, why is HHI so popular although it is much further to WDW? I wanted to catch the opportunity to get to know another part of the US that way, I've never been to Carolina but for the airport so far.

How did you get a room? Do you own at HHI (I own VB and BWV)? Do I have a real chance if I apply for the waiting list? I just do not understand why this specific resort is already full up 7 months in advance.

Thanks to all.

I finished making day-by-day reservations yesterday at the 7 month mark (you are less than that) for my 2 bedroom. There are not too many studios and one bedrooms (21?) there. Mostly two bedrooms (78?). So I'm not even sure if you called right at the 7 month mark you would have gotten a studio.

We love HH, very relaxing. We normally go to WDW every other summer, and this would have been our summer to go. But our crazy school calendar this year did not give us off a week in March or April, only February, and this would have been our first year of not going to HH in the spring after going the past six years. Even though it will be hot, we felt we could not go a year without HH for a year. Also, we always drive to HH, and for WDW we fly, so it is much more economical.

Can anyone tell me about the Tuesday summer activities? Thanks for your other responses.

The high season at VB is simply much longer (maybe 8 months). The high season at HHI is around 3-4 months long so it is harder to get.

Also, August is not a PEAK month at VB, but is at HHI.

I am so excited. We just booked our trip to HH for the end of Aug. It will be our first trip to HH and I have a bunch of questions.
My 10 year old son loves fishing. How is the fishing off the disney pier? or does someone recommend a great fishing spot.
Can anyone recommend a kid friendly restaurant?
How much is the bike rental and what day is member day?

Fishing on the pier is ok. Crabbing is good. Bike rental from disney dont know $ but you can rent from outside company and that will drop them off & pick them up. We paid $20 for 7 day rental. Just do a search on the web for HHI bike rentals. ther are a lot of companys. Most resturants are kid friendly. Try the crazy crab onn the highway not in Sea Pines less crowed. Go to see Greg Russell in Sea pine under the old oak tree at 8:00pm. he has a web sight.
Do the BBQ on Tue night if its offerd doring your stay. Any more question PM me.I might have some info I can mail out for you if you would like.

I agree that crabbing off the pier is great fun. My two kids love it!!! I haven't ever been fishing off the pier but have seen others be successful. As far as kid friendly rest. well there are so many places to eat at HHI you shouldn't have any trouble. I hope you guys have fun!!

We went the second week in August in '07 and have reservations for the third week in June this year. Loved HHI!

For August - be prepared for HOT, HOT weather! However that also makes the ocean temp high - it was 84 degrees when we were there!!! We loved it! However it was so hot the pools were very warm and Disney was pumping cold water into the beach house pool and throwing ice into the resort pool!!! If you ever told me before that trip that I would enjoy the recreational staff throwing ice cold water on our heads while playing a game in the pool I would have called you crazy!! However icy cold water in 100+ temps was absolutly a refreshing reward, just too bad it melted soooo fast!! :)

However even with the hot, hot temps we had a fabulous vacation. We all loved the Tues. night pool party and plan on doing that again. The kids enjoyed several of the activities, but we mostly spent every morning on the ocean and every afternoon in the pool.

Thanks so much! We are looking forward to the trip! Would you recommend renting a bike for a 5 day trip or just use the car? Is it too far to bike to the beach?

Bike to beach about 1 mile. if you enjoy bikeing the rent the bikes.

This past August we did not rent bikes as for us it was waaaaaaayyyyyy to hot to bike around. It was 100+ degrees everyday. But we did see people biking.

However we are planning on taking our bikes with us for our June trip as it should be a little cooler. HHI has extensive bike trails.

I'm not sure though even with our bikes we would bike to the beach b/c of all our "beach stuff" we have with us. We bring our chairs, umbrellas, cooler and sand toys everday to the beach.

We usually go to HH in October and we always rent bikes. My DH and 3 kids will bike to the beach house and I will drive with all the beach stuff. Occasionally we'll put our towels in the baskets on the bikes and all go on bikes and leave the other beach stuff behind. It's a nice bike ride to the beach house and my kids really love the "family bike rides". HH is the only time we find to bike together. However, if we were there in the hot, hot summer, I'm not sure we'd bike as much.

My son fished and crabbed off of the pier. He is not a fisherman, entirely too impatient and impulsive - so he didn't get any fish. However, he watched people around him catch some nice ones. I've noticed other people fishing up near the bridge/entrance to the resort. There are a few chairs under a tree and you pretty much look directly at the Kingfisher restaurant. Don't know if it's a fruitful spot, but I have seen people there.
