Hi all!

So excited:woohoo: just booked our first visit to HH for this April. It will be a short trip :guilty: of only 4 days. But, our flight is getting into Charlotte after 9pm, not being familiar with the area, I thought we might just as well stay close to the airport first night and head out in the morning. Would there be a problem with early check in at HH? If it can be, maybe we'll just head over anyways.

Your advice is appreciated! Does anyone have a suggestion on hotels near/close to the airport?

Thanks!!

Charlotte is quite a way from Hilton Head.

What you might be thinking is that you USED to be able to connect (USAir?) in Charlotte to fly directly to Hilton Head (instead of Savannah). I don't know if you can still do that or not. You can, however, connect in Atlanta and take Delta directly to Hilton Head now.

In either case, if you're getting in that late, you might want to find a place to stay near the airport. It's a fairly long drive (around 45 minutes or so) from the Savannah airport to the resort. If you're not familiar with Hilton Head Island, it might be easy to miss the resort entrance, since the island has architectural controls that limit signage.

If your room is not ready early in the morning, you can still use the pools, beach house, etc. while you wait.

I'm slightly confused. If you fly into Charlotte, the drive time to HHI is 4 hours. If it's USAir you're booking on, oftentimes it is cheaper to connect through CLT all the way to Hilton Head or Savannah (since CLT is a hub). My dh has done this frequently through the years.

Otherwise, try for bookings into Sav. or even Charleston (approx. 2 hour drive time to HHI).

FWIW, we once left Charlotte at 6 in the morning, checked into the HH DVC at 10 am, were assigned a room (which was ready for us), and hit the resort activities on a run. It was only a 2 day, 1 night stay and we made the most of it. I'm sure you'll have a great time!

I was so excited to book HH...without looking into too far into things..somewhere this old brain of mine was thinking Charlotte... I can see that's not right.. so on to checking Savanna...thanks for the correct info!! Just hope the airfare's not too scary!!! :scared1:

I would second this advice. Especially as a first timer, I'd stay close to Savannah.

Even in the day time, the resort can be difficult to find the resort. I can't imagine trying to find it at night for the first time. I don't believe there is even a sign for the Disney entrance anymore as there had been years ago.

Have a fun trip!

I found it late at night the first time. The main thing is to take the simplest route rather than the shortest. Once you get on 278 just stay on it and do not get on the Cross Island expressway. Follow the road around until you see the Shelter Cove Mall. Look for the big landscaped sign that says Shelter Cove something or the other at the traffic light after the mall. On the other side it says Palmetto Dunes. Turn right and head straight back...you'll start seeing Disney signs once you've turned in to the Shelter Cove Marina area.

If you take the Cross Island parkway you can't use the Mall as a landmark and it'll be much tougher to find the first time....even in daylight.

If you are staying on points I'd probably choose the hotels right outside of the airport. They mostly look like they've been built within the last year except for possibly one. The prices aren't bad either considering the airport is essentially near two resort regions (Savannah and Hilton Head).
