HH during Christmas week (or even Thanksgiving)

How difficult is it to get ressies at HH during Christmas week &/or Thanksgiving at 7 months out? Also, is it really busy at these times of year? (maybe even in comparison to WDW). We're considering adding on at HH so the 7 month window may not be a huge factor, but all info/suggestions are highly welcomed!
:)

Hi hoosiergirl! Hilton Head is my home resort and we had our first visit there over the Xmas holiday and fell in love with the it. The resort was pretty peaceful until Xmas eve then we saw a great influx of people. When we checked in the week before Christmas, we were told the resort was only at 29% capacity and I think we were the only family in our building but like I said, by Xmas eve there was a noticable difference and lack of parking (lol). But even with the resort being at capacity, I didn't get the feeling things were crowded. I personally wouldn't compare it to Disney crowds around the holiday but maybe someone else (I think Vernon was still around after we checked out) can offer a different perspective.

I think either time will be good but probably a bit warmer around T-day, which is why we've chosen November this time instead of December. We had nice weather in December (weather in the 50's and 60's) but I'd like to visit at a time that's a little warmer.

I don't have any idea how crowded it will be around Thanksgiving week but will find out this year because we have ressies for that week. When I called to make my reservation last week, I was told the studios and one bedrooms were going pretty fast so if that is what you would need for a busy week like Xmas or Thanksgiving, then probably along with the summer months, having the 11 month window might be a pretty good idea.

Sorry I can't offer any other help to you but if you decide to make a trip during the T-day holiday, I will be wearing my lime green ribbon and maybe we will run into each other! :D

Thanks ZerasPride! Your info helps a lot--and yes, I'll want a studio or 1 Br so I guess we better get going on an add-on! Any other opinions/advice anyone???

We were there across New Years and had no trouble booking at roughly 6 months out, but, we booked a 2BR unit - which HH has more of than any other unit.

While we were at the resort, we were told that during the holidays they were at 100% capacity, but that most people didn't book until just a few months before.

Firefighter Mickey,

You were told that the resort was at 100%; did it FEEL crowded at the resort? on the island? How was the weather? (I know--that is always subject to change!) ;) Were there many activities?

I was having a tough time believing that they were at 100% because the resort was not at all crowded - however, there were certainly a lot of teens at the NYE Teen Party that they had.

It didn't feel all that crowded on the island either.

The weather was great, except for one day of rain and the day we left we had snow.

On the sunny days it was even nice enough to swim - granted the air temp was on the chilly side, but we brought along some big heavy fleece robes which worked great when we got out of the pool.

I was there this Xmas, had no problem booking it 4 months out. The resort didn't feel crowded people wise, but the car park certainly filled up after Xmas eve. HH in general wasn't that busy and it was fairly easy to get restaurant tables on a walk in basis. I was there from 18th to 28th Dec, the first three days were in the mid 70s the middle days about 70 and the last few days in the mid 60s. We had a great time and I'd be more than happy to go again to HH over Xmas,

I live about 80 miles from Hilton Head and we go about 4 or 5 times a year if we can arrange it. We were at Marriott's Barony Beach over Thanksgiving. It is on the beach and the heated pool was used each day. Weather was in the 60s to low 70's even near the beach during the day. Over Christmas, our weather can range from highs in the 60s to 40s. When a front comes in, it is usually cold only a few days and then it warms up. We spent New Year's at HH in 2000, and had to leave early to check everything at home because of the extreme cold. Our kids still went swimming in the heated pool even though it was in the low 40s. Last week we went to Marriott's Grande Ocean. Part of the week it reached mid 70s and was 50-60s the rest of the time. Almost 80 is very unsual this time of the year. Disney's resort is a good ways from the ocean which is a plus if you visit during off-season because it is the wind on the oceanfront that is so cold. The trees at Disney also help block the wind. This year we will be at Barony again over Thanksgiving and at another resort at New Years. My kids love HH.

I also wanted to mention that if you have an II membership through another timeshare and can book Getaways, that my brother was able to get a unit at Grande Ocean over Christmas for $250 for the week about 2 weeks out. II has weeks now at resorts at HH for Christmas and New Years for $500 to $650 for the week without depositing a week.
