We just booked our first trip to HHI. We will be there between Christmas & New Years. Just adults this trip. Not ever being there looking for some veteran advice. Any must dos, restaurants that are a must visit? Knowing it won't be beach weather we found horseback riding and are planning on that. Anyone ever try the horseback riding?

Anyone ever bring their dogs and board on the island?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I can recommend the Evergreen Pet Lodge. http://www.evergreenpetlodgehhi.com/ We have left our dog there twice and would do so again.

We have gone there during that week many times..sopmetimes for the week and quite often for 1/2 nights on our way home from wdw. Nice time of year..but weather is iffy. One year it was high 60's and DS swam in main pool which is heated, then it has been 40-50 with gloves and hats! Lots of activities at the resort for kids and adults..We also have done day trips to Beaufort and Savannah. Go to HHIdining.com and there are menu of most restaurants on the island. You will also get dvc discounts at some Kingfisher, Scotts are good and right at Shelter cove(you can walk there). We also love Guiseppis for pizza (next plaza), Frankie Bones, Old Oyster Factory, Sea Shack, but really depends on if its adulats alone or with kids. We always visit Harbortown and the outlets in Blufton. Lots to do or just do nothing..walking the beach in any weather is good for the soul....Have fun.

Thank you for the info. I've looked at Evergreen and it looks very nice. We board at Best Friends when at WDW and were contemplating if we wanted to take them all the way to HHI but after seeing their website and reading reviews I think they will be making the trip with us.

This December trip will just be hubby & me at HHI. Are there any little pubs or micro breweries on HH?

Thanks,
Renee

The beach is actually pretty nice, even when it's cold. It's windy, so a good hat to cover your ears is helpful. We are there every year at that time, and the island is so nice and quiet.

I would also recommend a kayak excursion as well, though the weather always plays a role. Seems more often than not there's a small craft advisor when we're there. (They always cancel the tours if the water is choppy, no need to worry if you book it.)

Our dogs stay home when we go on vacation, but we see plenty of dogs at the beach when we are there...
