I am trying to gather information to plan a trip to Boston (this is where my daughter wants to live and go to college).

What publications can I find that I can subscribe to that will give us info?

We already subscribe to Boston Magazine (which we don't care for). Someone told me about something called "The Proper Bostonian" and I can't seem to find that on the internet.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Hi! Your daughter must be so excited to be going to college... I actually went to college about two hours away from Boston (and I'm currently still working here, too), and it's a great city for college-aged kids.

As far as publications, I think Boston Magazine is the only one you can actually subscribe to... There is an "IMproper Bostonian", but it's a free publication which you can only get in the city. They do have a website (www.improper.com), but I'm not sure how much info you will be able to find there in regards to planning a trip. There's also The Boston Phoenix (a free magazine, www.bostonphoenix.com), but again, it's mostly an arts and entertainment publication.

Were you looking for any kind of information in particular, like about hotels or restaurants? That might make it a bit easier for me to suggest places to look for what you need... Feel free to PM me if you have anymore questions!

Great town for college kids!!!! I teach graduate school here. There's no one publication which really captures the essence of Boston. To really experience the city, you have to come up here and do some walking, or touring on the Duck boats/trolleys. Most schools offer tours for prospective students as well.

You can go on-line to look at the Boston Globe at

www.boston.com

On Thursdays, there's a "Calendar" section which would give you a real sense of the diversity available here.

I was going to suggest the Globe's website(s) but Silky beat me to it!
I grew up in a suburb 20 minutes west (Framingham) but you can see my alma mater in my signature ;)

My DD and I have done some college visits in the past few months, and it's day trips for us to the Boston area as we are only 75 miles away. You will find a lot of helpful information/links on the Admissions pages of the various schools websites....including hotel recommendations and directions. One site (maybe Northeastern University's, not sure!) actually had a chart with driving times distances between a slew of the greater Boston Colleges and universities.

We went to Connecticut to visit some schools too, and many hotels offered a "college visit" room rate, if there were several schools in the area (ie greater Hartford area).

You may also want to consider an overnight in the Worcester MA area, there are a hald dozen or so colleges in that area to.

PM me if I can be of any help!
