Hey Walmart, it's the PRINCIPLE of the thing!

I read the other day about the woman who sued Walmart for being overcharged by 2 cents for an item (it scanned 2 cents higher than the shelf tag indicated). After what happened to me this morning, I completely understood where she's coming from! I'm often overcharged there, which is why I watch my receipts so carefully.

There was a display in the middle of the aisle ("action alley", I heard one Walmart employee call it) that indicated that the Walmart brand of potato chips had a price rollback from $1.98 to $1.00 a bag. So, I decided to stock up and buy four bags, since my DH and DS love those chips. I wasn't paying attention when the cashier rang my stuff up, but I looked over the receipt on my way out, and sure enough, I was charged $1.98 per bag! I went over to Customer Service and complained, and they were not the least bit surprised. They said it had been that way for FOUR days! FOUR DAYS they are misleading people! Not acceptable! The CS employees told me they've alerted management, and the price still hasn't been changed. They refunded my money and let me have all four bags for free, but it still ticks me off!

I agree. Even if it is only 2 cents, if they overcharge 1 million customers by $0.02, what an increase in profit! Your chips were 0.98 per bag and how many people didn't notice and how many did and weren't going to make the trip back for 0.98?
Walmart isn't the only place this happens at. All the stores have those scanners and they are only as good as the people inputting the data. There are bound to be mistakes.

IME, never ever had a problem with walmart. now, target does this all the time to me :((:headache:

I don't normally have a problem with Walmart but went just Saturday and was surprised when 3 items rung up wrong!

I had this problem at our local Food store chain, "Giant" a few months back. Dr Pepper said $1ec...rang up full price of $1.49ec (I had gotten 4 or 6). I just happened to look at my receipt and noticed, took it to customer service and they had to 'go check it out' and of course I was correct, so I got 1 bottle for free and the rest price adjusted, but this was on a FRIDAY....how many people didn't notice before me?

Ours has had 50% off all red tagged clearance signs all over the clearance section for about a month, yet everything still rings up full red tag price. I bought a few things the other day and the cashier had to manually override them all and didn't even question it because she knew it was all wrong.

Why sue just go to customer service and get the difference back. People are way to sue happy

It says Walmart is in compliance with state tax laws, yet she hasn't lost a lawsuit yet?

Makes no sense :rolleyes1

Recently, Walmart charged me $7.51 for a cucumber. I'm just happy when I leave with all my bags, (sometimes they like to keep one to give to the person behind me.):)

I bought ONE bag of bananas (more than one bunch- but only ONE produce bag) and was charged for TWENTY EIGHT lbs of bananas.

When I said that couldn't possibly be right, no one "got it." The lady at customer service kept saying "Ma'am, you don't pay per banana, you pay the weight." I had 7 lbs of bananas. Not four times that.

We had to ask for a manager before anyone figured out that 28 lbs of bananas in one bag was a wee bit much.

*sigh*

I expect nothing more from Wal Mart, I hate that store. I would gladly spend more money elsewhere, than to give them a dime of my business.

I hate having to go to customer service and wait for 10 minutes to fix a mistake that shouldn't have happened in the first place. I am usually very good about watching the display so I can get things corrected before the transaction is over.

Because sometimes it takes a lawsuit (and in this case multiple lawsuits) for a company to fix a problem. She noticed the $.02, but how many people DIDN'T? The article mentions she always sues for the least amount possible; she is a consumer advocate and is doing this to make a point.

I disagree, How is Walmart supposed to know it's not the right price if no one tells them??? A little common sense goes a long way, or it used to

Expect to see more of this. With the recent Supreme Court decision, issues like this cannot be covered under class action lawsuits. If Target or Walmart stores, nationwide, make a habit of not keeping the right prices in their databases or not changing the prices on sale day, only individual stores/transactions can be disputed. There is not impetus to address this problem, anymore.

Thank-you, big business-friendly Supreme Court and the presidents who appointed the judges that will not look out for the average person's best interests.

Because they make the sale signs and price the product. In this day and time with instant updates and UPC codes how could they not know that the price is incorrect? Also, when you do tell them and come back the next day and it is still wrong it makes you mad.

Don't all stores charge you taxes for the full price before the coupons? I went to CVS yesterday and used a two for one coupon on Dove shampoo. It was on sale and for some reason the two bottles rang up as free but I still paid 36 cents in tax.

Yes, common sense does go a long way...too bad Walmart did not display any common sense. common sense says when you change a price tag on the shelf, you update the computers. Common sense says when a customer alerts you to an incorrect price, you update the computers. Common sense says stop putting the same product in 16 different displays/locations in the store. The only lack of common sense is on Walmart's part.

She alerted them and went back 6 days later and the price had not been updated. This has happened multiple times in the past and clearly nothing is changing.

Do you not understand that she is doing this because she is a consumer activist? She is looking out for all consumers. She doesn't want you and I and everyone else to have to go stand in line every time a pricing error occurs (and it happens frequently at Walmart). Most people are not going to wait in line for 15 minutes over $.02, hence the title of this thread, it's the principle of it.
