Hey Thespians: secret garden?

so we found out today our school musical is secret garden... strange for a high school, we might as well do any since the 2 leads are 10ish!!! well, i'm not all that familiar with it, but i'd love to be the the main character mary. i'm 5ft... mezzo range, but not quite flat... would i have a chance? im a sophmore, so younger... i just don't know how she'll cast the leads. and normawlly, since our school is super political, i wouldn't dream of getting a lead till junior or senior year... but with the leads being younger...? idk, what do y'all think?

I don't really know anything about the show, but if the lead is a younger character then I definitely think a sophomore could get it. Plus, my school is the same kind of politics usually but when I was in 8th grade both leads for the musical were sophomores and our MacB this year is a sophomore. So politics don't always win out in the theatre so I say go for it and you could totally have a chance!

well our middle school was NO politics, i got the lead all three years... but the hs is different. if you're not a 'favorite' which i'm not cause i didn't audition for the school show last year, you've gotta scrounge for you're life! all the choir kids started pre casting today... i'm one of 3 girls 'up' for the part... by standards of kids. we where talking about it at rehearsal, and they all felt like i could have a shot, i just don't want to get my hopes up.

Yeah I know what you mean about getting your hopes up. For MacB callbacks everyone kept telling me that I had Lady MacB in the bag, no question. And of course I believed them which lead to total disappointment when cast list went up. But even so, still believe you have a shot at it. It seems kids are often on the right track plus you can never truly know what gies on in the mind of a director

yea... but with this director she picks the show based on her students... so she has a lot of it cast already. we are sure of some parts, such as collin, martha, lily etc... the one character no one can put a finger on is Mary Lennox!
