The time 1961 I was -2 years old the cost of a full size 3 bedroom 2 full bath house in Michigan $12,490.00

Plus they added Storm windows Screen patio, Appliances, activity room, storage room, and an extra half bath.

Makes you want to scream dont it What would that house be worth today I wonder.

geez... you can't get a TRAILER and an acre of land
here for under $25,000-$30,000 these days!

I wonder how much that house is selling for now!

Figure this: my mom bought her house in
1974 for $35,000 (2100 sq ft)... her neighbors house
is for sale, is about half the size (1200) and doesn't have
any of the upgrades or modernization that
my mom has added (tile, new appliances,
new roof, etc) and they want $149,000
for it! I am shocked that someone actually
wants to buy it! Established neighborhood and
all, however, why get a house that is over 30 years old
now, when you can go get a brand new custom
built house a few miles from here with a 10 year
warranty on a lot you choose, in a GOLF RESORT
for $147,000 (1990 sq ft is the model I want!)

p.s. Ed... I knew you were old, but you are WAY OLDER
than I thought you were... you are old enough to,
well..., be my, older brother! yeah, that's the ticket!

Well, can't help much with the HARLEY...
however Scott has a Honda Shadow he is
gonna have to dump soon (he never has
time to ride it! plus with the consideration

And, I have a cute cousin that lives a 20
minutes from Disneyland right on the beach...
and she is available!

To answer you question Heather.

I live ten miles from Roseville, Michigan and I can guarantee you that house is probably selling for around $190,000 at least.

My how times have changed.

That is a pretty healthy increase for a house in
40 years! Makes me want to go buy ALL the houses
I can afford now... rent em, then sell them when I get old
to afford retirement in the event social security isn't
still around in 30-35 years!

I have one house already... working on another...
so I'm half way to retirement already - lol!

Our first home Blaine and bought around 1978. I think we paid around the same for that house as we did our 2001 Hyandai Santa Fe.
Our down payment was $1500. And that probably included closing costs.
It was a 1920 Sears Roebuck house. (A real fixer upper. )
We had a neighbor who was in his 90's at that time. He could have bought that house during the depression (pre bathroom and front porch days) for $800.

But the ad (from Jan 29 1961) is all of 40 days older than me!



There are a few houses down in Nappanee that I remember looking a lot like that one, too. Probably from the same era, as well. Guess we'll have to start looking once Brian gets down here.
