I had some trouble during the parade taking pix.....my camera takes a second or so to focus and most of the characters were in a new place by the time I got the focus locked. Pain in the .......tush. Has anyone else experienced this? If not what camera do you use? I am looking to upgrade from my HP 4.8 megapixel to a SLR digital with a faster shutter speed for action shots. Does anyone have one and if so can you share the good and bad about it. Please!

thanks
cindy

That is the one thing I hate about my digital and long with the flash issues!
the only thing I did was turn the red eye off. Figure I can edit that out. Also I try the rapid fire thing but haven't had much luck with that. I think I am doing it wrong and need to look in the book!
I always have my point and shoot camera with me so I use that for parades or low light.
I do have a great night vision on my camera but you need to be so steady handed! Or bring a tri pod which of course I won't lug around at Disney.

This is also the one thing that annoys me about my digital camera. I always have my SLR with me anyway. I got a tripod at target that is light weight, has thin legs and is about 8" long without the legs extended. I keep it in my backpack when traveling and you don't have to extend the legs to use it, just find some surface to stand it on.

Hi Cindy,
I have a Canon Digital Rebel. It is 6.3MP (I think). There is no shutter lag that I notice. I absolutely love it. I haven't missed any of the great things my 19 months DS does. And he's quick! I have not learned everything about the camera yet, so I can't really say the down side of it other than the price.

I just returned a digital camera that I had bought on QVC for this exact reason. Unless the subject was sitting completely still, I'd miss the shot because it took the camera SO long to snap the picture after I pressed the shutter button. I was really ticked off because they made it look so great on the on-air presentation, but after I thought about it, all the shots that they showed were still shots. Conveniently, though, they never mentioned the problem with the shutter delay.

I am not an expert in the field of photography so I cannot speak with expert knowledge, but from what I have been able to find out from researching on the internet, digital cameras do have this problem. You have to do alot of research before buying to find out which cameras have the best shutter speeds. I did read that manufacturers are working on improving shutter speeds since this is a common complaint, so maybe we'll be seeing an improvement soon.

A digital SLR would be fantastic, but unfortunately I can't afford to spend $1000+ on a camera right now. I've just decided that I'll stick to my Canon Rebel 2000 for a while longer until new digital models come out that downplay this problem and prices come down.

I guess I am glad (not sure if that is the right term here...) that its not me and it is a digital issue. Sorry that we all have the same problem. I love the quality of my digital pix and when they catch something it is amazing....but I will have to start carrying along my Canon 35mm point and shoot for quick shots. And night ones too......I do miss the quality of my nighttime shots using a digital.

UGH!!!! sometimes I think I would like to go get a better 35, but I would miss editing my own pix and printing them out..not to mention the benefits of knowing you need to take another picture because someone closed their eyes....sigh.

So I guess I shall sit and pray for the prices to drop on the new SLR digital cameras.......

Count me in on having this problem! -

I did take a one day photography class from Nikon (I have the Nikon coolpix 5700)

They stated that if you want faster shutter speed, then go in aperture mode - Pick a small aperture, and that will give you a faster shutter speed than if you used the shutter mode - Am I making sense to you?

I haven't tried this yet, but I will -

Hopefully, someone does have an answer to this - I am tired of blurry parade photos!

Cindy, same issue here! Email me (soon) if I can help you out with parade pictures ...

for the offer of help on the pix....I did get enough good ones just was disappointed in the lag time on shooting them. And oh my! taking pix on the Safari ride was almost impossible. I guess I shall have to carry both cameras for awhile or at least until the prices drop on the new versions.

Kaitlin's Mom...where did you take the Nikon class? I have a 4300 and would really love to learn all the tricks!

I have always heard that technology doubles every 18 months for half the price.... Think about it.
