Hey campers watch this!

Meh.

I thought the trailer hitch was going to go through the truck's window.

Or something good like that.

TCD

That was cute! Good job.....our first hook up was a bit more dramatic. We learned that you have to make very sure the trailer is on there TIGHT.

Other lessons we learned that first trip:

1)When your popup camper comes off the ball on the interstate at 65mph....you will have a magnificent fireworks type show on the pavement.

2) a) Safety chains should be crossed and put UNDER the hitch because b) you can't just pick a pop up camper hitch off the road....it's a bit heavy for that.

3) If you have people jump up and down on the back bumper of the popup camper, it will help the front of the camper come up so another person can get the wheel thing back under it. This also seems to be pretty entertaining for the other drivers on the interstate.

On a side note, if you happened to have been sleeping when the de-hitchment occurred and you happened to have had on scrub pants that you untied before going to sleep....you really should remember to tie them back before you attempt number 3 listed above. It will save you a little embarrassment.

I totally understand. :) Taking a trailer home for the first time is a big deal and i wish the guy many decades of fun. I liked it. Of course you know they guy is probably a member here and has yet to find this thread and realize the video is him.... "hay that truck looks familiar. HAY!"

This is me reading your story.............:rotfl:......:lmao:....:rotfl2:

Another thing to remember is that when you attatch a bike rack on the back of your camper, ALWAYS use the proper grade of bolts. If you don't, this will also produce fireworks as you travel down the interstate... as well as a lot of people staring and pointing. :rotfl2:

Don't ask me how I know. :rolleyes1

Agreed. The first hookup is a big deal. (OP is my DH and we just loved the happiness and pride on that guys face when all went well.) :thumbsup2
We were the same way when we first started camping.

.....

:rotfl: Then you would have loved the other 3 lessons we learned that first trip out as well:

4) When someone yells "Okay STOP" when raising the popup camper roof- it means stop right then and do NOT give it one last crank.

5) When you break a lifter cable doing #4, you can prop up the falling roof corner with a spring tension shower rod from Target.

6) When you are driving home at the end of this lovely week long trip and the Georgia police pull you over for not having tail-lights (you know---because the falling trailer hitch at the beginning of the week cut the wiring in half)....

You can put red lens tape over two flash lights and a Hello Kitty battery lamp and duct tape them to the bumper/spare tire so you can get the rest of the way home.

Of course the final lessons would be 7) truth is WAY stranger than fiction and 8) laughter will make ANYTHING better :rotfl:

:lmao: BAAAAHHHHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

I'm starting to think I've found a kindred spirit.

Yes, laughter does help heal the wounds doesn't it?

We could only laugh when we were newbie campers and after setting up for our first trial run before our big trip to Myrtle Beach. We had no water pressure and the water we did have was...well...a little aromatic. :confused3

On our way to MB we swung by a camper repair shop only to discover we had our hose hooked up to the potable water tank which apparently had stale water left from the previous owner.

Our first trip in the new TT Cheryl learned you can’t stand right behind the Trailer and point left or right to back into the camp site if I can’t see her. Something I already knew

I was expecting something else in the video too, but congrats

we got pulled over with our first pop up for tail light or turn signal not working

those flashing lights sure get your attention dont they?

That is too cute! Of course my fav 1st with hubby and the RV was the 1st sewer dump. I kept telling him to video it incase he pulled a RobinWilliams.

LOL!! That wasn't stale water, that was "vintage" water!

Yes we had a few little hiccups with our plumbing in the camper van too. I won't go into detail but...some levers shouldn't be pulled until certain hoses are well in place!

Things that may not seem so funny at the time provide YEARS of laughter in our family:laughing:

LOL. Funny stuff ya'll!

 OH LAWDY!!!

My parents had one of those events at the beach just a few months ago. Something broke or came loose when dad was hooking up the hose to the "blue tank".

Needless to say it was quite a baptism. :rotfl2:

Not a neighbor left in sight! :rotfl:

Correct regarding the hoses....as you can see from the experience just mentioned. LOL.

We have a ton of laughs at our mishaps too!

One more lesson we learned the hard way...

When sitting at your site watching a storm come your way from across a lake, don't wait until the last minute to batton down the hatches. All I can say is that children were airborn, campfire was being blown toward the campers on our double site as mom and I had beach buckets running back and forth to the lake gathering water to put out said fire. As DH tried to hurry and get the awning up a big gust of wind took him and the awning nearly over the top of the TT. :sad2: Not a big comfort to see your hubby hanging onto an awning that is looking more like a sail. :rotfl:

It really was a pretty sudden storm that didn't seem that bad until it was on top of us. But we all still make fun of our stooooopid selves over that one!

On our last trip our neighbors directly behind our Uncle's site (I mean directly we were in little bear and they were in big bear loop) we were sitting outside visiting and I observe a woman doing around with the sewer hose when it popped right off the valve and viola stink everywhere. I felt like I was watching RV when Robin Williams yells "TURN IT OFF". I told my family to get ready for it because I knew it would hit our site momentarily. Sure enough about 30-45 seconds later we were overcome with stank! We were laughing so hard I'm sure they heard us, but come on it was hilarious.

:scared1:
