What a fabulous story going back to Blue Bayou I'm sure your folks felt the specialness of the event as well

It was wonderful, at 10 I was simply too enthralled with the entire thing to really grasp what a huge splurge that was but it made such an impression as it was, it's an incredible memory. Nice to have a new one to go with it!

I love that too. Generally speaking our kids are pretty good about that stuff, better I think than I was at their ages. Then again they DO love their Disney.

What a great story! I'm sure it was a huge splurge for your parents to take you all to Disneyland and Blue Bayou, and it's great that it's still such a special memory to you all these years later.

In retrospect I can't even imagine what a splurge that was. I will say, and can speak for all my siblings, it made a HUGE impact on all of us.

The crowds the entire week were ugly.

I did that at BTMRR one time... just trying to buy some extra wiggle room. But it definitely feels wrong.

It certainly looks delicious. And filling.

Filling is an understatement. I mean really, they should charge a couple bucks less and skip the soup, no one can eat all that! But then again, the gumbo was quite tasty!

Ok, I'm going with Eric's facial expressions being the highlight of the pictures. But they were certainly good pictures of the 4 of you just having a good time together.

That kid can make some faces!

Oh my! He must have been craving some candy corn or something.

He wanted to do all the rides back there, it was pretty funny. I mean, why not?

That is just an incredible story. I'm so glad that you took the time to plan this meal and experience the location together... some once again, others for the first time.

For me, it was my only dining must do.

Theoretically, yes. Often for us it doesn't work out that way. Either we forget the leftovers, we never eat the leftovers, they go bad, don't reheat well, all kinds of things.

I just really love this. I think it is great that you were able to kind of relive that experience and share it with the boys. You really did a great job conveying how much it really meant to you, both then and now. And you didn't need any pictures, no matter how clear or how dark, to get the point across!

Heimlich's Chew Chew Train! We haven't been on it for over 10 years! I think I'm going to MAKE DS go on it with me next time we're there.

It wasn't there when the boys were there in 2001, it opened after that, and we didn't go back into that area at all in 2010 so it was a never done! Funny part is in 2001 we kind of lived in the bugs life area in the water play area.

You should definitely make DS go on it!

Thank you, I worry I've told it too much sometimes but it is such a part of where our love for Disney came from and was pretty key to that lunch for sure!

I am also pretty sure that I first read it after I had met your parents in person. And I have to say that I can totally see your mom being up for a trip like that. And I would never have suspected that she was not the woman who gave birth to you. Seeing you two together, it was so obvious that she was your mom!

How wonderful that you were able to share that special meal with your sons and your parents! I am sure that thanks to your history, it will become an important place for them as well - even if their Blue Bayou is called Teppan Edo!

I think it made an impression, I should ask them what the highlights of that trip was for them. It is always interesting to me to see what their opinion is versus mine, post trip.

I had obviously put this trip on the back burner ever since DH got his 'vertigo' weeks ago so after our Vegas trip, i'll be in full planning mode with this trip, so haven't planned which route to take yet. But Tillamook was definitely on my list (HUGE cheese lovers here!) And as much as I would love to go hiking, that would be a little difficult with DS. I'm also a donut fanatic so VooDoo is a must.

I think you meant to say, "Plus, do Alicia clothes shopping in OR..." Totally happening too! I probably can't get much shopping done since we'll pretty much be living out of our car, but i'll make room in all of the consoles, glove compartments etc

I still haven't been on it since it's changed over from Mulholland Madness years ago! I"m sure it's the same thing, but it is such a cute ride that makes you laugh out loud for sure!

It's exactly the same, just some new signs lol! I kept calling it Mulholland Madness actually. It's super cute.

Never had been. He was 2 when we went in 2001 and it wasn't opened yet. We didn't do it in 2010 as he would have been too cool to even consider it at age 10. Now at 15 he thinks it's cool to check all the little kid stuff out. But you know what? It was fun!

Oh come on Cynthia, just add another 20 hours to your 80+ work week already.

Seriously. Except then I wouldn't even be home to enjoy my overpriced art!

Surprisingly, we all like Primeval Whirl! I can usually do it once a day. We did not like Goofy's at all. It seemed jerky. And not as much fun as PW. We were some of the first ones on it that day since it had just opened, so it wasn't like we were frustrated after waiting in a long line.

I thought I once read that if you split a meal at Blue Bayou they will charge you a split plate fee, but for that both people sharing get the included appetizer. Not sure that it is still that way, it might have been in my preparation for the 2005 trip that I read about it!! So, things could have changed in 10 years...

Fran and I split the Monte Cristo and still take home leftovers, but we usually go to Cafe Orleans for it and also get the pommel fries and an onion soup, then finish with the beignets. We take home usually two pieces but have our carb overload. We'll see how that goes in the future.

I cannot even tell you how refreshing and "special" it is to come here, to the DIS, to find like-minded people who just "get it". To explain to others that a place, a scent, certain sounds, all with the common denominator of Disney, can have such a mind blowing effect, is folly; they just don't get it. But there are those who do, and that is why I so love it here amonst those who can retell a story that never gets old to us, and who equally love the hearing of a re-telling and smell the same smells, get that same rush, and want a little more. Thank you for sharing such a special memory to you. That place also holds "more than a memory" for me. Similar in so many ways.

Did they charge you to split?

Well technically, I'm ordering the onion soup and pomme frites, and she orders the Monte Cristo. We ask for a couple extra jams, but since they don't "split the plate" in the back, we don't get charged a split plate fee. I just grab a chunk of sandwich off her plate.
