I had never rented from Hertz before - but it was the rental company for the Hyatt Package that I booked for a trip to Austin last week. I was told that I owed $68 at the counter, over and above the package price for car taxes, etc. When I got to the counter, I found that amount had jumped to $110 - something about holiday weekend, blah, blah... anyway. I handed over my CC and my ID - she said, okay, I will be putting $310 on this card, are funds available? WHAT!?! Hertz holds a $200 deposit for your rental period. This was NEWS to me! The agent was very rude aout answering my questions about it and said she assumed every other rental agency did the same! (Nope!) We have rented in Orlando numerous times (never with Hertz) - and never paid a deposit with any of the others.
Just wanted to throw that out there FYI. I'm not certain that is across the board at all Hertz locations, but for folks who budget down to the penny - it could throw a wrench in the works.
