We are renting a van from Hertz next month.
Last month we called to inquire about additional driver fees, and my husband was told that there would be no additional driver fee for a spouse.

Friday I called back because I read something about a security deposit, and was told there would be a $200 deposit required??? I guess its a credit card hold.
I also inquired about DVD players, and was told no, not in the vans.Only premium rentals.
I also asked again about the additional driver fee and was told that yes there is a spouse fee of $15 a day, that caps off after 5 days.So the charge would be approx $75.

Have any of you had experience with these issues?

:confused3 Sorry I can't help you, but when I reserved my van for Feb it never asked for a credit card number so I assumed they would be like Alamo?!?

A spouse is not automatically a free extra driver at Hertz, unless you have a Hertz Gold membership. Like Alamo, you can book using codes that get you free additional drivers, such as using the AAA code, with which any other AAA member is free. --- Suzanne

When you pick up the car, you have to have a credit card in the name of the person renting the car. They put a hold on the card, and then when you drop off the car, they refund the hold, and charge you the real amount (or sometimes they just charge or refund the difference).

So, are you saying that the initial charge to my CC will be the $200 on the day of pickup?
And then on the day of return, our card is charged the rental fee.(Or possibly the rental fee, minus the deposit?)

So,technically all we would have to have available on the card is the total rental amount? Or the rental amount PLUS the $200 ?

This is confusing.

Okay, nevermind.I just found the fine print information on the Hertz site.

"Credit cards must have available credit, and debit/check cards must have available funds, for the estimated amount of rental charges PLUS up to $200.00 for any incidental charges in order to secure the rental. Eligible debit cards must have Visa or Mastercard logo.

Use of a debit card to rent a vehicle is subject to a review of your credit history. Stored value/prepaid/gift cards are not acceptable to qualify for rental, however these cards may be used for payment at return."
