Just stumbled on this when trying to find out why Hertz prices were so ridiculous for August this year.

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hertz/901748-hertz-no-1-club-gold-5-europe-but-not-us.html

When we picked up our Hertz rentals last year we were told to stay in line as our Gold wasn't valid in the US so we got none of the perks etc.

I'd assumed this was to punish us for taking advantage of the expedia glitch on two different occasions but the thread above implies your European Gold isn't valid in the US unless you register it online for US preferences. I'm not sure about the earlier posts around faxing a signed copy as the last post suggests just completing the info online does the trick.

I'll let you know in September if it worked (assuming Hertz stop being so damn expensive. 4 weeks Chevy Tahoe in July is £900, 4 weeks in August is £1580!!!)

I followed the link you provided and it also mentioned Canada as well as the USA. We hired a minivan in Toronto last September (Hertz were by far the best price, especially with Quidco discount) and DH had the great Gold 5* service - name up on board, van in the closest bay complete with keys - just what you want after a long flight :thumbsup2.

He hadn't done anything special when we booked and so unless this is new, I suspect it's not applied consistently.

If he's gold 5* it's possible he just gets better treatment full stop, I've only made 3 hertz rentals in total so they probably don't value me enough to bend the rules lol

Did you actually go out to the kiosk and try use your Gold card?
We didn't, we went to the desk inside as there was no-one waiting and thats what we were told to do by Expedia. At the desk the lady told me she could process me there without gold and would only get 1 driver or I could go out to the kiosk and get processed as a Gold member and get spose added free.
As we were not bothered about free spouse I didn't risk walking out to the kiosk incase I was sent back.
I know others went straight out no problem with the Expedia Glitch and used Gold.

...... ah ..... now you come to mention it, DH was actually a President's Circle member until 2 years ago, so his 5* membership will be his first slip down the rung  This will only continue as he's taken early retirement and no longer hires cars in Europe on a weekly basis!

I'll keep an eye on his 'status' with them from now on, so thanks for the heads up :)
