Two months out, and we're still looking for an excellent rate on a 9-day compact car rental ... National and Dollar look like they have the lowest rates, but they're still more than we can comfortably spend on a rental car. So this morning I read that Hertz has a AAA discount, and I called to get a quote. WITH the discount they offer, they quoted me almost $150 MORE than the base rates of other rental companies. How is this possible? I hung up with the customer service rep just before I burst into laughter. $370 for a 9-day compact car rental? YIKES!
Maybe it's the lack of money in my wallet talking, but where can I get a very good rate on a rental from a reputable agency without busting my vacation budget? YES, I have been faithfully plugging in the coupon/promo codes from MouseSavers.com, but they're still not producing fantastic results. Maybe the late September/early October travel dates are to blame? Is anyone having luck with early Autumn rentals?
