First of all, I don't even like Hershey's chocolate. Something about it just doesn't taste right to me. So I usually end up buying imported chocolate anyway. I'm just amazed that Hershey's was able to ban British chocolate.

"Hershey's has blocked British-made Cadbury chocolate from entering the US.

The chocolate company struck up a deal with Let's Buy British Imports to stop imports of Cadbury products made overseas, reports Tatiana Schlossberg at The New York Times.

The company will also stop importing British Kit Kat bars, Toffee Crisps, and Yorkie chocolate bars.

Fans of chocolate manufactured in Britain say it tastes better than American-made chocolate.

A Hershey's representative told The New York Times that the company has the rights to manufacture Cadbury chocolate in America using different recipes, and that importing British chocolate is an infringement.

The New York Times broke down the major differences between the kinds of chocolates.

"Chocolate in Britain has a higher fat content; the first ingredient listed on a British Cadbury’s Dairy Milk (plain milk chocolate) is milk," Schlossberg writes. "In an American-made Cadbury’s bar, the first ingredient is sugar."

The American version also contains preservatives.

Furious Cadbury fans have started the hashtag #boycotthershey."

What??? I've purchased Cadbury from the UK through Amazon, so now I can't do that? What about the stuff they sell in Epcot?

Hershey's chocolate is gross. It should be called American chocolate food, kind of like how they have to call American cheese food because its not real cheese.

US Cadbury eggs already went to crap a while back. Taste awful. I guess I know what I will stock up on at Heathrow duty free.

UK Cadbury changed the chocolate in their Cream Eggs this year - it is not longer the same chocolate as in a Dairy Milk bar. I've not yet had one this year, so I cannot comment on it (but many other people have - and not in a good way).

When did this happen? They still have Cadbury's for sell in the little store in my building here. They're the little caramel bars... I think I may have to go buy them out if it's true.

I don't like the cream eggs though... yuck.

They are selling the Cadbury's that Hershey produces in the US. The OP is talking about places that import Cadburys that are made in the UK that use different (in many people's opinion better) ingredients.

Oooh I see. Thank you for the clarification. I was really considering starting a Cadbury chocolate stash. :rotfl2:

I'm not sure what'll happen there. I hope Disney finds some way around it so that they can keep the actual UK chocolate and not sub in the Americanized version of Cadbury.
For those who are wondering, the UK chocolate lists milk as their first ingredient and no preservatives. US chocolate (Hershey's) lists sugar as their first ingredient and does have preservatives. Hence the taste difference.

I will pass on the eggs then. But I can lay in a supply of actual UK Cadburys. I frequently bring back chocolate bars as treats for neighbors kids and relatives, and the real Cadburys are so good. I am fond of Caramellos. Flakes don't travel well.

Maybe I should thank them for ruining the eggs. They were a weakness of mine.

If Amazon gets the kibash, someone from the UK on here should consider being an "exporter" to those of us willing to pay shipping :) Can you ship chocolate in the mail?

:rotfl2:. My daughter went to school in the UK from September 2013 until June 2014. She roomed with students from Germany, Taiwan and China. They all agreed, British chocolate is awful. Their opinion not mine. All her roommates are still in Leeds, and about every 6 weeks my daughter ships a care package of Hershey Bars, Snickers, Milky Ways and Whoppers to them.
Now they also all agreed that the Chocolate in Amsterdam when they went there on a school break, was awesome.

Me, I used to be a fan of Cadbury Fudge Bars, but I could only get them in Canada.

I have them brought back (or bring them back myself) often and they always made it fine. I stick then together and wrap them in some clothing put them in the middle of my suitcase.

Funny, they are probably the only group of people who I've heard of who think that! Guess everyone's tastebuds are different. I do sent some US/Canadian chocolate to friends in the UK, but is stuff they don't get there (or, least, not easily) - like Reese's stuff and peanut butter M&Ms.

Hershey's chocolate isn't good. You can disguise that in some candy bars but it by itself is sad.

I'm so glad that Lindt has such a strong presence here. When I want chocolate, I want decent chocolate! (Or a Twix. ;) )

So did Hershey and Cadbury come to an agreement or was it banned? How can Hershey BAN an import?

Was the agreement with Hershey/Cadbury that Hershey does not export to UK?
