Hershey Park Hotel help needed

We are going to go Hershey Park next summer and we need some info on where to stay. If we stay directly in Hershey, it is really expensive and we will only be there 2 days at the most. So, does anyone have any recommendations?
Dh made me give up Disney for a year

well our only experience.

stayed at a comfort inn that said it was in Hershey.
It was AT LEAST 15 minutes from the park, via the freeway.
It wasnt very expensive. it was actually closer to the Amish stuff we wanted to see.

We have stayed at The Hershey Lodge two times. It is a nice place, but a little over priced. When we looked into it it was about $40 more a night than the local hotels. It has 2 pools, free mini-golf, and kids activities. The restaurants are not good there. I have yet to have a good meal. I tried a few times thinking it was just an off night or something but it never got better. Eat at a local restaurant instead. Most likely we will stay there again when we go back. Why I don't know. I guess just because it is a Hershey Hotel.

We've always stayed at the Hershey Lodge. We're 3 hours away, so we know many people who've gone to Hershey Park, and have yet to hear a good review for the other hotels in the area, and some scary reviews. We love being able to hop right on the air conditioned shuttle bus right outside the park, instead of taking a tram to the parking lot, and getting the kids into a hot van. We like the pools, and the kids like the buffet breakfasts.

Actually, 3 pools - the little one with the fountains, the outdoor, and the indoor.

I don't think I'll be a huge help, but I went to Harrisburg a couple years ago, which is I think about a 15-20 minute drive from Hershey. If you stay in Harrisburg, do NOT stay at the Crowne Plaza -- I rarely complain about hotels, but I complained about that one (and ended up getting $70 in certificates as compensation). However, the Hilton in Harrisburg is really nice. Harrisburg has lots of restaurants, and some shops.

The Hershey Hotel is kind of isolated, but I recall seeing other lower-budget chain hotels in the area. We had dinner at the Hershey Hotel, and it was a really nice restaurant and good food. But, they required men to wear a coat, which seemed a bit over-the-top and unnecessary (the restaurant in the Hilton was much more elegant and even served sorbet between courses to cleanse the palate, and they didn't require a coat).

Hershey Park wasn't opened during the time of year of my visit, so I can't comment on that. We did go to Hershey World which was a bit cheesy, but the gift shop was terrific. We also did a trolley tour of the town which was interesting.

Have you tried doing a search on Expedia, Travelocity, or Trip Advisor to see what other hotel options are available? I generally find those sites to be pretty helpful. Good luck!

In June we went to Hershey for a soccer tournament. We stayed at the Hampton Inn Grantville/Hershey. It was fine- about $125 a night, about a ten minute ride from the park. Free breakfast!

We stayed at the local Days Inn. It was about 5 minutes away from the park. It idn't have any special features or anything, but the price was great and it was clean. We had plenty of room, and a fridge was included in the price. The hotels on Hershey's property are really nice, but they're pricey.

This place has been mentioned here on the DIS as a nice place: http://www.willowvalley.com/. It looked nice enough and reasonably priced for the accomodations that I saved it in my favorites. I'm not sure how close it is to Hershey, so definitely check the distance.

We stayed at the White Rose Motel in Hershey. It was very close to the park, it's a no-frills motel, but very clean and it is a family owned business. They were super nice, very helpful with recommending where to eat, what to do, etc.

We go to Hershey for Thanksgiving and stay at The Hotel Hershey since they have tons of kids activities, a beautiful indoor pool and special rates. If we went in the summer we'd stay at the Springhill Suites just down the road. It's fairly new and clean.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn in Grantville. It was nice and clean and only about 15 minutes away.

The White Rose Motel it is on Chocolate Ave East of the park- stayed there years ago - it was cheap and very well run. The place was immaculate. It does have a small pool outside.

We stayed at the Hershey Lodge about 6 years ago with our two kids. It was really cute. They gave each one of us a giant Hershey bar at check in. They had a kids check in where if they had a huge jar of candy and if you could guess the amount you got the jar. They also had characters walking around the lobby. The characters were dressed as a Kit Kat, Reeses Peanut Butter Cup, York Peppermint Patty. They had a good time.

I've stayed at the Country Inn and Suites in East Harrisburg. It was very nice (like most Country Inns), gave us breakfast and was 15 minutes to the park.

I definitely recommend it.

When I've gone with Girl Scouts, we've stayed at Elizabethtown College, which is a fairly long way away, probaby 30-45 minutes.

We stayed at The Red Carpet INN Joenestown.... It was a last minute deal and NOTHING was available due to a convention..
But this turned out to be a good thing the Hotel was very inexpensive and about a 15 minute drive. It was not the best Hotel but it was clean and had a small fridge and microwave... but you will need to bring something for breakfast as there free is a joke... english muffins.
IMO if you are going just to go to Hershey and need a place to sleep it is well worth it..
if you like to spend time in the Hotel then.......
Hersehey park is nice but it ain't Disney....there just ain't much there... and what is there is a rive a way and you will not be in the Hotel much
I feel the cheap ones are fine unless you kids are old enough to go to the park on thier own...as there is a bus service form the Hersehy Hotel

DH and I stayed at the Hotel Hershey a couple of years ago for Valentine's Day weekend. The hotel was nice, we wanted to try the spa but it was booked solid, and the Sunday morning brunch was delicious. I think you can make reservations for the brunch even if you're not a hotel guest. HH has the closest replica I've found of the chocolate croissants at the Boulangerie Patisserie in Epcot. They were excellent, but boy did they go quick! Sorry, not much help in the reasonable priced category, but I highly recommend the brunch.
