So I was sitting down today, looking over my finalized (I THINK!!!) itinerary for upcoming Dis trip with the fiancee and parents (we leave Friday woo hoo!)
Anyhow I have been very well behaved about trying to eat healthy and excercising and feeling much better physically and mentally now! :goodvibes
So heres what I started wondering as I looked over our scheduled eating stops.....how many calories and how much fat would you guess is in a standard combo meal at Disney parks??? Then I started thinking about over the course of a day with meal stops, mickey bars, turkey legs, etc....how much do you think the average tourist unknowingly puts away in a day??? I mean sure you have the 8000 miles of walking you do while in a park, but its kind of scary to think about isnt it? I wonder if Disney has had the nerve to post caloric contents anywhere????

BTW in the end I am STILL eating my gosh darn mickey bar!!! :cheer2:

mickey bad wrappers SHOULD have the calories on them as any package foods do. I'm going to take a guess that a cheeseburger and fries gives you the same amount of fat/calories that a fast food chain does, same with the chicken strips.

I try to avoid fried foods on vacation (they just make me feel icky)

Don't even want to know!!! I lost 15 lbs. over the past two months, and cannot wait to sink my teeth into a cheeseburger!! :rotfl: Only problem is, I can no longer eat big meals, and do not know how I am going to survive the buffets (DH eats non-stop and doesn't gain an ounce. He can't wait to get to a buffet.)! DD and I plan on splitting meals when we order off the menu. (She has lost 22 lbs!!!)

You guys sound like my mother and I....we have both made a committment to become healthier and have been doing curves for 2 months now very regularly and eating healthy. I am only a few lbs from my goal weight so this trip has me a little scared!! We've decided to split combo meals when we eat at the parks.....I have noticed like you that I cant sit and eat and eat like I used to which is good (but im afraid that at the world I will find a way to fit in more then I should and this will result in me being over full and over grumpy!) I guess I will just try to remember my healthy habits, let myself have a few indulgences, and keep my fingers crossed!

I know what you are saying about changing your eating lifestyle, but when I am on vacation.....that goes out the window. I try not to count calories on vacation. I will say that being at WDW you eat quite a bit more than usual, but you do exercise more (additional walking). I've heard people actually say when they've returned from a week at WDW that they've lost a couple pounds. I guess that is possible. :rolleyes1

Just my personal feelings, you are at WDW on vacation, live a little, and don't worry about counting extra calories. When we go to Disney, we do so to get away from our daily routines. Part of our daily routines is watching what we eat.

Kitchen Sink here we come!!!!

ADP :goodvibes

I once thought that there were no calories or fat grams at Disney and that turned out to be true. Trouble is, they wait for you at the property line and hit you twice as hard on the flight home. :confused3

Last year for spring break we went to Paris. Because of all the walking we did, I actually LOST three pounds, even though I ate whatever I wanted. So with all the walking at WDw, it may not turn out so badly!

We spent Spring Break week eating across WDW (were on the Silver Plan). LOTS of eating, and eating things I don't normally eat. Heck -- I was on vacation! Besides, I walked my legs off while I was there, and we did no snacking since we were stuffed from the two sit down meals we did each day.

So, I did my monthly weigh-in at Curves when I returned and although I didn't gain a pound, my body fat went up 3%. Figure that one out. :confused3

my little trick to stop from overeating is to wear shorts from a couple of summers ago that are a little snug. i guess when your stomach is squeezed your arent as hungry. it works for me and i have since not overeaten at disney and felt a lot better after vacation.

otherwise it is always a good idea to share meals, and if you feel like you havent gotten enough exercise, the hotels have awesome guys that hardly anyone uses.

opps!! i meant gyms. although there are some pretty cute lifegaurds. but the gyms are great to use too

have a great vacation!! :cool1:

I think sometimes I eat healthier on vacation than when I'm not.
Because my normal day at work is so hectic sometimes....I don't even realize that I just ate half a box of Mike & Ike's or a whole candy bar.......just to get the sugar buzz to get me through the last 2 hours of a 12 hour day!

When I'm at WDW I really enjoy the fruit stands......love to grab some pineapple slices while walking through the park! They are so much more refreshing than candy or other snacks. :goodvibes

We never eat red meat, so we really look for the lower fat chicken or fish dinners, etc.

Now....we do splurge on Mickey bars!!!! :mickeybar :mickeybar
But that is probably the only chocolate I eat on vacation!

I'm not sure about how anyone's DH feels about using the hotels "awesome guys" for exercise. :rotfl:

Last time we were there, I felt like we ate like cows. When we got back, DH lost 2 pounds & I lost 3. I think at WDW it all evens out.

I wear my pedometer. Days we're not planning parks, more relaxing at the pools, I do make sure I get at least 10,000 steps/daily. This past Oct there were a few days I was pushing 20-30,000 steps/day.
This will be our 1st two wk vacation and I know I need to watch what Im eating more than I usually do at WDW. I went over the menues and know where the salads are located - most days Im ok. Put down on my daily itinerary to make sure I get some fruit daily. If I occasionally (not every day) want a Mickey bar thats ok - gotta get my calcium somehow - lol
I lost 45lbs mostly in 2003 and Im at goal and plan to stay that way - good luck

Didn't you know there is NO fat or calories in VACATION food????? I thought everyone knew that :mickeybar

the diet usually goes out the window at WDW,too much fun food(and the drinks at PI alone)

I don't know, you may be on to something, since on a "where is prince
charming" thead, I find out publically that my prince charming aka DH :smooth: may have been having breakfast with some "cinderella
girl" I say all bets are off! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I think for me, 1/3 of the fun is planning all that yummy food I'm going to eat and working out PS'. There is no way I'm going without my favourites at WDW. However, I felt decidedly sluggish this past january and 2 weeks in the world seemed too much (something I never thought I'd say!) I have 18 months to get fit.
Howe about Dis themed exercises? Situps can be counted as so:

1 turkey leg... 2 turkey leg.... etc.

Jogging with the theme park music on your walkman....

Swimming with pix of kitchen sinks inside your goggles...

Can you think of any more?

BTW, no such thing as calories on Dis property, just watch out for re-entry into the real world... its a belly buster!

Much pixie dust,
Claire :flower:
