We are spending our second week of vaca on property at the POR Dec 12-18th. With our package we got the dining plan. We are first time users for the dining plan, not first timers to the world. My question is we have made dinner reservations for the following restaurants. We are kinda meat and potato kind of people, but are trying to break out of our norm. What do you think of the choices??? The only one that I have eaten at before is Sci-Fi. Typically with our family we are hitting the quick service place and dont take the time to sit down and eat, but this trip is to relax and enjoy since we have finally been enough times to skip a few things. Also this trip we are not bringing any extras with us (inlaws, siblings etc) it's just going to be my DH,2 DD's and myself! We went to 1900 Park Fare last May when we were there, liked it, but enjoyed the property more than the food. Anyways, I am just looking for others opinions about these places. Thanks!! :thumbsup2

Akershus
Boma
Cinderella Royal Table
Sci Fi
Boatwrights

Are those breakfast, lunch or dinner? I don't really like Sci-Fi and if I was paying for dining plan would feel like I was losing money by going there (totally different though for free dining IMO). We're not big CRT fans either, but if you've never done it could be worth it especially with girls.

We love Tusker House for breakfast and also the other choices.

I agree hat SCi fi is no good. We love Boma and Tusker House!! Akershus is good and I am sure you will like CRT..more for the ambience than the food:thumbsup2

Thanks guys, we are doing dinner for all of them. My DH and I just thought that Tusker might be a little too much of a stretch for our food likings, so we switched it to Boatwrights, for a few reasons. One because of the food choices, they have prime rib for me! Secondly because that's the resort we are staying at and it would be easy to get to and from after a long day at Animal Kingdom. I am sure these might change again. Sci Fi is def. one that we are on the fence about too. We are going to have to look it over again. Thanks and keep 'em coming!

Sci Fi has a fun atmosphere for kids but I agree that the food's just ok. It's kinda dark in there. I'd go back for a kid's choice. It def has one of the best themes, I'd like to see the menu changed b/c it is such a cool idea.

If you are a meat and potatoes kind of people (as we are too..;) )
You will NOT like Boma.

Yes I know you said you are trying to step out, but Boma is more "out there" than Tusker House and you traded that one.

Don't get me wrong Boma has good food, but it isn't for everyone.
I was terribly upset no one warned me of the spices they use.
All I ever read here was it is African spices. Yeah, ok, I like spicey, the hotter and savory the better but that is NOT what they use.

They use cinnamon and curry in practically everything. Lots of vanilla and fruit flavors in the dishes as well.

Even the meat was rubbed with cinnamon.......now I can eat practically any kind of beef but when it tastes like a Christmas dessert.....??? NOPE can't enjoy that.

The soups, mashed potatoes, meats like I said all are sweet. If you like sweet you will love it. However when I am eating my dinner I don't like it to taste like dessert.

The only other place on your list we ate at was Sci-Fi. It was good, went there for lunch paid OOP.

If you are meat and potatoes people, I would do at least 2 meals that satisfy that or you will be so disappointed. Stepping out of your comfort zone is good, but not if you dislike the majority of your dining experiences.

Good luck, hope you enjoy your meals!!!

I agree about SciFi average to poor food, cool environment. My kids are now telling me it scared them when they were younger (6 and 4 at the time). I didn't see it as terribly scary but can see where a younger child may be creeped out. Sounds like a bunch of great choices. Enjoy yourself. We have always taken your stance on relaxing and sitting for dinners. I think you will agree after this trip that it is definitely the way to go.

CLEO, NAD, & JEFF ~

Thank you for your input. I really love hearing from others because it gives me more of a real concept to what we should expect. My DH has now changed our ressie from SCI FI to MAMA Melrose's at DHS after reading everyones comments. Have you guys eaten there? My DD 7 is a big pasta fan so she should be good. You guys are a huge help THANKS AGAIN!!!

Another good choice instead of Sci Fi is the 50's prime time diner. Really great atmosphere and really great meat and potatoes fair. Pot roast was very good, and sometimes you need good ole comfort food while on vacation.

that is too bad about Tusker House..that is some of the best food on property
