Here's a silly dilemma

Okay, here's the thing. I am getting married in December. It is the second marriage for both of us and he has two darlings from the first marriage. So anyhow, me and the kids want desperately to go back to Disney World in June 2007 (we were just there June 2005). I figured I could use it as a 'family honeymoon' and they would be ecstatic. The thing is, we were going to wait until we got back from Disney to start trying for a baby. Now I am getting super excited about the baby thing and am thinking about starting to work on it earlier. I am wondering how stupid it would be to go to Disney World with a 5 year old and a 10 year old and be pregnant. While I would be mostly hanging out with the 5 year old, not doing really wild rides, I truly don't want to mess up Disney World in any way for the kids as their lives will be changing drastically soon enough. Any opinions?

Is there any way you can move up the vacation? And I guess it would depend on how pregnant you are at the time of the trip. Also if the little one doesn't like the bigger rides then you can sit with them and people watch. And play i spy games or shop in some of the stores close by!! I would still go ahead as long as you weren't too far into the pregnancy!! Good Luck!!!

What a great mom you will be to these kids - you are so sweet to be thinking of what will be best for them for your family "honeymoon"!!!

For me, the decision on whether or not to go to WDW would depend on how far along I would be in the pregnancy, which you won't know until closer to the time of the trip. I was lucky to not have morning sickness but some of my friends were miserable for a few months. June is very hot and I imagine morning sickness in the heat while keeping up with a 5yo would be challenging. However, if you are in your 2nd trimester, I remember feeling great then so as long as you stayed hydrated and rested as needed, I think you would be fine.

Would it be possible to go at a less-crowded, less-hot time of the year?

Good luck with your decision!
Dawna

I dont think you are crazy at all, I was there with a 12 yo, 6yo and 7 months pregnant, I had a blast , I think its just a comfort level thing

I was 12 weeks PG at WDW and I was fine. However ... if you *ahem* start right away you'll be about 5-6 months PG in June. I wouldn't fo that!

I love big rides way too much to go when pregnant. But thats just me. I also would not want to risk being sick. I did not have any morning sickness with the twins but I did get horrible heartburn in the last few months. Good luck with whatever you do and congrats on your new family. :goodvibes

Ditto!

I think it would also depend on how old you are. I was married quite a while before we were ready to have children. It took us a lot longer than we anticipated to get pregnant. We did end up seeking help.

I've been to Disney both at 17 weeks and at 26 weeks. I took it slow both trips and had a great time.

For me, being pregnant is more fun than Disney (can I say that on this board?) lol
If you aren't to far in your pregnancy, and you don't mind missing out on some rides, I say GO FOR IT!

Lol...well you asked for opinions...and here's mine:

Get married in December.
Start trying for baby mid to late May...or wait until on vacation in June.
Name baby Walter...or Cynthia..or Prince...or Ariel...or...not Pluto.
Enjoy the rest of your life.

The six months that you wait until trying for "not Pluto" will be more than rewarded by the memories your children will have being with you on this special vacation.

That way...when/if you add to your family, Disney won't be remembered in the context of "mom was so nauseated/wish we could have done more but mom wasn't up to it".

This may/may not be the way pregnancy affects you, you may be one of those whom the gods smile upon...but I wouldn't risk establishing a special relationship with your new kids for starting/having a new baby six months sooner.

....and believe me...I know how excited you are about the prospect...lay this groundwork carefully...you will then place yourself in a position to reap heaps more down the road. I so wanted my children to love the new baby/consider us all "one family"...and they did!

I'm going with a 14 yo, 3 1/2 yo, 2 yo AND I will be 6 mths pregnant! Yes, I'm crazy but I think it will be a lot easier to be pregnant than to have a brand new baby (younger than 6 mths) and I'm not willing to wait a whole year to go back to Disney. I plan to spend a lot of time taking it slow and easy w/ 2 yo while hubby, 14 yo and 3 yo run around and get tired.

i have to agree that it depends on how you handle being pregnant. I was pregnant when we went and did not know it. The whole week I was miserable and could not figure out why. Then I got home and found out why!

Every pregnancy is so different, even for the same woman. You can't predict how you'll feel (morning sickness--if you'll have it, how bad & how long) or if you enjoy being pregnant. I love the babies, but I HATE the pregnancy. And you don't know how long it will take you to get pregnant. I can tell you my experiences.

First pregnancy, I simply sneezed and I was pregnant. Super instant. Horrible, horrible morning sickness (hospital watch) for the entire nine months. Other problems too. Second pregnancy, horrible morning sickness the frist 5 1/2 months. At 5 months I went on bedrest due to constantly going into premature labor. Oh, it took me 2 years to get pregnant the second time too. Third pregnancies was planned, but not for another year- year and a half. Surprise! Morning sickness, but not too bad, the whole nine months. At 6 1/2 months I went on limited activity, but not a big deal and no other problems.

During pregnancy #3 we went to Disney right as I was going on 6 months (other kids 4 and 15 months). I had a blast. My oldest is adventerous and super tall. He and DH did all the big rides while DS#2 and I people watched, stopped in at playgrounds or shopped. I didn't feel like I missed on too much, there really isn't that much that is pregnancy restricted. Other than that, it wasn't too much different than being pregnant at home--instead of a 3 1/2 mile walk, we walked through the parks. It wasn't too hard on me and I have rotten pregnancies. I may do it again for our Dec 2006 trip.
