Was wondering whether I could put the rest of the fam in line for one ride (ie Small World) while I take the tix and run to another ride (ie Haunted Mansion) to get fastpass.

Lots of people do it! You never know when a little one is going to have to go to the restroom! Just politly say excuse me and make your way to your family! But be prepared for those NOT so understanding folks in line. There are always some out there!

I would do it for something close. Say, get Fastpasses for Philharmagic or Peter Pan while everyone else waits in line at Dumbo. But not for something far away! (Haunted Mansion wasn't doing Fastpasses when we were there in April. )

As long as you are only person(or an adult & child) getting back in line, then it shouldnt be a problem

What I wouldnt suggest doing is having 1 person wait in line and have a large family or group of friends trying to get up to the front to meet them.

The more polite thing to do would be to run and get the FastPasses, then wait at the exit of IASW for your family. I don't think it is fair to anyone in line to have even one person feel that they can just move up in front of them just because they know someone up ahead in the line.
