Here now, weird stuff at park opening....

LOL! I thought, what in the world is HSM?
Haunted Mansion?
Hyperion Theater main entrance?
High School Musical?
Hollywood studios main lot?
????????
OH!!! Hyperspace Mountain!!

I'm a little embarrassed to admit it took me a solid 10 minutes and way too much brain power to figure out what HSM was...

Yeah, I might have been a little confused, too, until someone said Hyperspace Mountain. Still getting used to that one I guess.

I'm here today and ever since they posted the official schedule, I'm sure I saw it opened at 9am, which I agree is odd. I was joking I wondered how many people showed up at 7:30.

Incidentally, I've never been at a 9 am rope drop, but security had a long wait. One cast member searching bags was taking his time and joking, "hey look, you brought me food." When he commented that I should smile, I said, "I was smiling before I waited in this long line."

Also, we were near rope drop but it was a mad house near PP, so we didn't ride it.

And getting to HSM to find it didn't open until 10 annoyed me. No wait, on Saturday, having TSMM break down on me and to find it closed for most of the day annoyed me more.

Maybe I haven't gone to DL enough but is there a reason I had to park at the Woody parking lot when I arrived at 9am, and then bussed over to the park?

Sucks that the High School Musical show opens late. Didn't even know that was still around.

:rotfl2:

Totally thought the same thing.

But I see no need for us to change "space" to HSM. Hyper or not, it's still space!

Disney parking directions are mystifying and always have been. We came in once totally early and had to park at garden walk. (Not sure if they still use that as overflow)

Didn't ruin it per se, just caught me off guard. I read mouse planets weekly updates and get the hours from there, so my fault! Mouse planets update this morning still shows hours at 8 am this week and next week. That'll teach me to check the actual website.

Send an email or post a comment to Mouse Planet to let them know that the schedule needs to be updated. I'm sure someone will take care of it.

It might not be cost cutting; they might be doing maintenance and plan on opening later in the day rather than take the attraction offline for a full day or days. They've done that in the past, so it's possible that they're doing that now. It'll be interesting to see what happens; the Disneyland.com calendar has HyperSM opening at 10:00 am Mon-Wed and then back to the same hours as the parks on Thursday.

Out of curiosity, I looked at the hours for HSM for the week of my visit, the 23-25. HSM has the same hours, opening at 10 from Mon-Wed, then seems to be back to regular hours on Thursday.

I do have one question, there's an Early Magic Morning on Thursday, so DLR will open at 8. On the HSM schedule it says open 9-12, but then under that is lists the EMM. Does that mean it will be open during that time as well? What about getting FP during that time?

Thanks!

We are there the same time. I saw that it wasn't opening until 10 AM also (Mon-Wed). Yes, on Thursday, it says it opens at 9 am (regular hours) and does list EMM hours, so unless there is a maintenance issue, it should be open at 8 am. We will probably see you in the line.

Oh, and you can't pull fastpasses for it during the EMM hours.

I am here at early entry in Fantasyland. The lines are longer than I have ever experienced for early entry. Mr Toad is 30 min. According to the app Space Mountain is closed.

Can you point me to where you are finding the hours for specific rides? Is that only on the day of? Is it on the app?

It's on the app. Once you click on the ride scroll down a bit and it will tell you the hours. Right now HSM is listed as closed and the hours listed are 10am-12Am

It definitely was closed when I went over to Tomorrowland a little after 9. It's so busy here. Not sure what they are thinking.

The hours are also posted on the website (Disneyland.com) for each attraction. You have to go to the attraction's page and then select the date of interest on the calendar:

In this context (hours) it doesn't really matter if it's HyperSpace Mountain or not, but in other contexts I can see where the distinction can matter. I suppose using HSM for HyperSpace Mountain is just like use SMGG to denote Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy. There are times when it's useful to be specific about which version of Space Mountain we're talking about.

Speaking of Ghost Galaxy, could this be the reason for the late openings? Is it possible they're doing some "pre-work" to prepare for the transition from Hyperspace Mountain to Ghost Galaxy? I mean I'm not sure why they'd choose to do it during EMH and first hour of park opening but just throwing ideas out there.

What is that, logic? That has no place here. We're blaming Shanghai and budget concerns! :rolleyes1

I thought HSM - Haunted Space Mountain (at least I got the Space Mountain, right). I thought they meant Ghost Galaxy, which confussed me because it doesn't open for another month (or so).
