Here Now : & Very Upset, advice please

I didn't have a premonition about this trip, I posted the thread because I forgot my license and credit card and I was wondering if anyone else had a disaster like that and sure enough there were plenty.

As far as wondering about where the hospital was that is because I have had 2 hospitalizations in recent months 13 months apart. Which makes time with my grandchildren even more precious to me. I won't go into details about it, but it was a very scary incident for me as well and they both took me a long time to recover.
Life to me is about spending time with my family, and I would like that time back with them. I don't think that's asking too much.

I also took note from another post about a local dentist, I have had a lot of dental work recent years, as well. I like to cover all bases. Gosh I feel like I'm being bashed into the sand here by some.
It really amazes me how unkind & aggressive people can be when you only wanted "a shoulder to cry on" & I'm so sorry you've received such harassment from your post. I'm so glad your grandsons are doing better now!

OP, so what time would you and your family like Disney to pay for you to recapture? The day of the breakfast and the 2-3 days of the vacation lost after? Or the whole trip, including all the good days leading up to the tragic breakfast? Hat is what people keep asking, and what you haven’t answered. Time lost would mean only the last part of the trip. Memories lost again means only the last part of the trip. Memories tainted would be the whole trip, and that is where people are saying it is possible you won’t get as much compensation as you think is fair.

No they did not arrive Tuesday
They arrived at Melia in Friday the 13... your trying to put it all together by assumption, why I have no idea?
Posters ask questions that don't get answered. I'm trying to fill in blanks for them and myself, based on responses I've read one time each. No detecting. Good t that you got to spend at least twice as much time together as the initial impressions provided.

Thank you very much. Your very kind to say that!!
There are more kind people here, which is why we all enjoy coming here!
Itvdoesnt upset me, I do see it from time to time here, as we all do.

I can understand that too. It's not unreasonable to choose the familiarity of home over time at a hotel with grandparents.
I happen to think it is unreasonable for OP to expect any sort of "do over" or compensation from Disney due to time missed with her grandsons becuase her son made that decision.
A decision based on the medical emergency caused by a Disney chef. It's absolutely related.

The whole trip was not tainted, we enjoyed every minute till that breakfast!

and I never asked for anything when I spoke to Disney... I just asked for our time that was missed back together
This statement contradicts itself.
Still wrong, & why it is so important to you I still have no idea
I'm a math person. When numbers don't make sense, I try to figure out why.
You do realize that many people drive further than Austin TX? Its Texas not Egypt. Very possible to drive.
I understand that. I just found it surprising they'd drive a thousand miles with two sick children, including one who was on oxygen one day earlier.
I would love to know what Disney decides is fair compensation.
I disagree. I absolutely feel settlements should not be shared. Whether they're satisfied with the outcome, sure. But publicizing any outcome opens up the defendant (for want of a better word) to figure claims of, "But when X happened to Y, they got Z! I want Z plus!!!"

Good point.

Pretty sure Disney might have someone on their legal team who knows just a smidge about non disclosure agreements and when and how they're helpful and can and should be best utilized.

I'd say that's a pretty safe bet. :D

This is my concern as well.

There are plenty of restaurants that tell me to simply not come or to not order anything at their establishment.

Disney will happily serve me. But they tell me to know that although they will do their best, they cannot guarantee an allergy free meal. Because I have Celiac, and not an allergy, I am willing to take that chance.

Please, Disney don't take your options away from me.

I agree. I think the food allergy option is already abused by people who simply want specific choices rather then what is offer. I cannot stop remembering the post from a mom whose daughter wanted to try the millet bread at BOG offered on the gluten free menu. She planned to claim a gluten allergy in order to accommodate her DD, and then got all persnickety when she was told DD would not get any pastry. Or the guy whose friend wanted to dine at Cape may, however he did not like buffet seafood, so he planned to claim food allergy so his meal could be custom made. Ugh! I firmly believe too much litigation in regards to mishaps with meals can jeopardize the entire program.

Thank you very much. Your very kind to say that!!

I have not seen anyone unsympathetic to the incident. I have seen people ask what you wanted from Disney because you have yet to share that information, and then you get annoyed if someone speculates.
I also do not understand putting two kids in a vehicle to ride hundreds of miles after having been so sick. My DGD would be pampered until she was well, and her Nana and Pa, (me and my DH) would be doing whatever possible to alleviate any stress that was still outstanding for my DD and DSIL. If I could pull Pa out of every gift shop within WDW. LOL!

I understand your upset, I really do. I cannot understand why you refuse to share what compensation you want, because "time returned" has some sort of value. I have found snippy people here on the DIS, however I honestly feel that that is not occurring here, at least not until there was back in forth concerning dates, etc, and that could easily have been avoided had you been clear.

Unfortunately that's what happens when we don't have all of the information.

Several people have asked how many days you thought you were owed but you didn't respond.

If I'm not mistaken the request was for accommodations large enough for all, on or off property, with a kitchen and a bath so that the children could be bathed. Memory of timeframe is sketchy, but I believe it was somewhere in the neighborhood of 5-7 days.

So basically a week's vacation. To replace leaving one day early and that fiasco of a lunch. Which I believe must have been horrific.

They can't give you time back. That is impossible but you keep saying it. That time is gone.

If you want to see your grandkids for a few more days, go to them and spend time with them. It doesn't have to be at Disney. It shouldn't matter where it is.

OMG this. If time with your grandkids is so precious and you need more of it, go visit them. Disney does not have to be the one responsible for you spending time with your grandkids.

DH & I never stay in the same place as my sons family, in other words we have separate quarters. Melia has a bathtub & kitchen that’s what I was referring to...I never spoke about a timeframe or expectations... again just that I was sad about the time that could have been.

I’m calling “Uncle”, in other words I give up fighting off all accusations here.

Once again I DID NOT REQUEST A THING

Again, I'm very sorry that your trip ended so abruptly and disappointingly.

I've asked from the beginning and am still unclear how much time your son's family lost. I've gathered that they left one day early. If that's true then I would hope that Disney would cover medical bills, and reimburse the breakfast, and the lost day or maybe it was two days- one spent at the hospital and one due to leaving early of the tickets and hotel. I'm not going to question the decision to leave early. I'll just assume that the parents were doing what they felt was best.

I'm sorry, OP, that you have been offended by some responses. Honestly though, everyone has offered sympathy for the situation. The questioning came in due to people trying to figure out what would be fair compensation. You gave a lot of information- more than enough for Disney to know who you are but then became really vague when asked about how much time was lost. If the time is what is important and you've already put so much personal info out here, why are you so reluctant to just say, "they left one (or two) day early" ?
