As you can see, my join date is 5 days after yours :teleport:. I was actually a member before then (as were you, I assume) but the server had a huge crash and lost everyone.

I'm not sure it's quite a "lash out". Instead, I think that people are simply trying to understand. I really do feel for you. Your grandkids got terribly sick, all of you were worried sick and you lost a couple days at the end of vacation. I can understand that, for you, the whole vacation was tainted by the error. I guess I'm not sure that Disney will accept any responsibility for your vacation before the wrong food was served to your grandsons. I think it's perfectly OK to ask for more, but I wouldn't get your expectations up.

As for the comment about trip insurance, it was a little blunt but something you should consider in the future. If multiple members of your family have multiple food allergies that can ruin a trip you may want to look into insurance to cover your losses next time. Although, to be fair I don't think that there would be any huge monetary losses even if you had insurance on your last trip. Disney will pick up medical bills and you can't insure against "loss of happiness".
Yes, I was a member before the crash and our dates of joining were reset, I wish they were the original dates!

Well, I disagree. They could have killed 2 kids. A replacement vacation isn't much to ask IMO
Yes. It is.
OP was not asking for a replacement vacation
OP agreed with posters who feel all six of them are entitled to a whole new trip on Disney's dime. The affected party didn't even stay onsite. The OP and her DH remained at the Melia until the scheduled checkout day (as far as I can tell based on No mention of checking into IT or any other hotel in the interim), then completed their trip as planned
I asked early on, how long the vacation was intended to be? Has that been answered?
Seven nights for OP/DH, four nights for all six. Appears the Californians arrived 7/17, planned to leave 7/20, chose to leave 7/19.
It’s really not about the money it’s about the time lost together, which was Wednesday morning when this happened through Friday.
I'm :confused3. Weren't you still all together at the Melia until they left Thursday?
I didn't have a premonition about this trip, I posted the thread because I forgot my license and credit card and I was wondering if anyone else had a disaster like that and sure enough there were plenty.
Still, the timing and topic seem unusually coincidental. Try viewing from a general perspective.
We are only a plane ride away no matter where we live.
See, a statement like the contradicts the several claims of saving up, anticipating, and scarcity.

Who want's reimbursement in cash, not us, that's not going to recapture our time together...we just want our days missed together. It could be at the Melia Orland Suits or wherever , we are not fussy as long as we have a kitchen to cook for the kids, and a bathtub to bathe them. I don't think that's an unfair request considering medical co pay bills my son will have to pay. I've stated before we all just want to make up for time lost, how many times do I have to say it?
Your son should not have to pay a dime in copay for a medical emergency caused by a Disney chef. I think that ALL of agree that will be the case. I think that might be where others are confused about you wanting a whole new vacation. you were thinking it as a "repayment" for his copay while the rest of us already assumed that Disney was going to pay the whole medical bill so there was no copay.

They can't produce time but they CAN recapture it
How?

I don't think that's an unfair request considering medical co pay bills my son will have to pay.
If that's what you think, you're missing the point many of us are saying... your son shouldn't have to pay ANY medical bills... co pay or otherwise. Disney should handle all of that.

I still don't understand why your son's family left a day early. That extra day (Thursday to Friday) could have given you more time together as a family.

I think we all could care less about the ticket money wasted for wed, thurs, and fri. parking fees, uber back to AK for DH and I, and co pays. We all feel time together is more important...including my 5 yo grandson, he even gets it! lol

Again, if time together is that important, why did your son's family leave a day early?

If you don't care about the cost for anything that was actually "lost", I don't think Disney is going to be able to help you. They can't make time. Ticket money, parking fees, and transportation back from the hospital is a totally reasonable request IMO. Wanting a 7 day stay in a villa for 6 people is not.

You can go on and on assuming, Gosh I've belonged to this board since it was just Pete and a few others and never felt the lash out like this before. There's always a first time. If I can handle watching what happened to my grandsons. Your assumptions certainly aren't going to get a rise out of me. The way I've always posted on these boards over the years is in a compassionate way Enough Please.

My gosh! I'm a more than a little surprised myself! They could have killed two children. As a nurse I can promise you that a hospital that made a mistake like this would be sued and for a lot more than the cost of a vacation. I hope you get more time with your family and a satisfactory outcome.

I think everyone agrees that Disney should pay any out of pocket medical expenses and unused tickets. It has been stated many times. I don't know how to put a price on "time". Are you asking for a full vacation or just the one or two days?

I'm still not sure when they went home. Did they leave a day early? Why? Why couldn't you all spend time at the resort together?

How?

My oldest grandson was not feeling well at all, he has asthma as well, and had a flair up due to the incident. He was also put on medication from the hospital which made him not feel well. The doctor gave specific instructions on this whole incident peaking again with his airway. I'm not sure of the exact verbiage but my son remembers precisely. I was there when the doctor was talking to my son, actually holding my grandsons hand while he was in the bed, struggling to breathe with oxygen. My concern was him. My head was spinning with all the information that was being said, it's hard for me to comprehend everything. The 2 boys were in different ER rooms I was going back and forth, totally overwhelmed at that point. At first, at AK I took charge getting help that my grandsons needed and trying to make sure they got the proper care quickly. By the time I was in the emergency room I was overwhelmed.
When I stated it ruined the whole vacation, there are many factors as to why.

Thank You, I appreciate you saying this

Sadly, you're not going to get that back :(. No one can give you that back. The best you can do is accept whatever money Disney will give your son and set that aside for another family vacation and make better memories. Again, I think it's perfectly OK for your son to ask for them to cover a few days in a DVC villa as part of his compensation for essentially "pain and suffering" but I wouldn't hold my breath that Disney will do it. It doesn't hurt to ask and the worst they can say is "no".

I'm sure it was very stressful. And I'm glad everything turned out ok. But did the doctor recommend (or order) the family to go home? Or you don't remember?

I have kids. And if one of mine got sick (enough to go to a hospital) on a Wednesday while on a trip, the last thing I would do is put them on a plane on Thursday if we were scheduled to leave on Friday. Even if the doctor said "don't go to the parks", we'd stay at the resort, hang out at pool, and hey, be together as a family (because my kids only see their grandparents 2-3 times a year).

The decision to leave a day early doesn't make sense to me if time with grandparents is so important.

They can't produce time but they CAN recapture it

They can recapture the MISSED time but not the entire trip. You need to look at the happy faces of your grandsons prior to this happening with you. Look at their faces now. Be thankful you have them! That is point so many people are having. Disney doesn't owe for days you had and enjoyed. For days missed as a result of accident yes. Medical yes.

Maybe your son should start getting travel insurance for future trips just in case.

It's amazing you still keep posting here. If son and family lawyer up this whole thing is out in public and could be used against them.

While I think that maybe a full vacation in a villa is a bit much to ask, as others have said... children were sent to ER and could have died.
NO WAY does some replacement park tickets cover that.
Not even close.
I am really not getting some of the thoughts/opinions here, at all.

Not to mention if it's true about the prior post about Disney disasters. It's not like the details in this thread don't completely identify the people involved to Disney's legal team from the start. Social media is a treasure trove in litigation.

You've got the dates all wrong.....don't worry we aren't trying to cheat anyone, so leave the details to us please and stop playing detective. It's disheartening what you are insinuating

You should go back and read the whole thread about Disney Disasters, there you go again!

If what you want is an entirely new free trip for all 6 of you (a "do-over"), you're not likely to get that.

You may be able to get monetary compensation for unused tickets or reimbursement for the room after the incident occurred. And medical costs.
There is actually 7 of us including my 1 year old grandson
