We are at WDW now and go to Cabana Bay hotel tomorrow. The 2 days we have to do Universal are forecasted to rain (90% chance). My question is how rain friendly are the Universal parks. I can deal with getting wet but do the rides shut down? Are there any indoor attractions?

Many of Universal attractions are indoors not all of them but there are quite a few. FJ, spiderman, Gringotts, Transformers, MIB and several others are inside buildings.

Diagon Alley has a portion that is covered. Also if it rains it will hopefully be less crowded. Put on your old shoes and go.
Plus the bus stop at Citywalk for CBBR is covered.

My only warning is if there is lightning get inside and stay there.

Rides shut down for lightening within 5 (10?) miles. Perhaps for torrential rain as well, but not for regular rain.

Lots and lots of rides and attractions inside!

Crud. We are here now too. Friday is our ONLY US day and my kids are so looking forward to it. I really, really hope we have a little time to go on rides.

Accuweather for Thursday says possibility for thundershowers around 11 am and then again around 4 pm

Accuweather for Fiday says possibility for a thunderstorm around 10, 1 and 4.

The times between those storms is supposed to be sunny. Sounds like just normal Orlando summer weather, to me.

Thanks, I didn't look at specifics. I hope this is the case. We plan to stay all day.

On the plus side Florida weather can change pretty quickly. I still think that you will be manage a good day at Universal even if the weather isn't fabulous.

That's one thing I can say about our Florida trips is we've never had to worry about rain. We go in December every year and in 75+ days since 2008 I can remember it raining twice. Once was a downpour that only last a short time and one actually rainy overcast day.

i've had three different trips to the darkside since 1999 that were a complete rain out.

a couple of them were during the dreaded horrible named storms that came through.

have to say that two of them were difficult to enjoy the parks on some days.
pouring rain and heavy winds made it just icky trying to walk around the parks.

i totally understand the fear some have when they are in orlando parks during a non stop, unusual rain storm.

i think the worse time was at epcot for food and wine and it was impossible to do the food booths.
the other time was at hhn when the winds were so bad, and the rain so fierce at night, it "dampened" the fun for hhn....
didn't make it to the closing of the park one night.
my shoes and clothes took forever to dry out.....

carzy for the mouse, i know your anxieties but the rains that have come down so far this summer, can be doable.
if heavy non stop rains hit while you are at the darkside, go to the studios park.
more things to do inside buildings .
bring a mini umbrella and wear a poncho.
it is some protection for you from becoming drenched to your undies.
wear teva sandles or the ones that have a back strap on them.
that will help.

crossing my fingers you have dry days and for those days you do get rain, it won't be soakers.

wish you the best.

The BEST rain we have ever had in Florida was in 2005, Hurricane Rita.

They announced on the Orlando TV stations in the AM that all Disney parks were closed for the day.

Around noon it lightened up a bit so we decided to venture out and get some lunch. We went over to the Disney area and drove past the gate and saw that it looked open.

We went over and asked and sure enough, they decided to open it up right when we got there.

The park was SO EMPTY it was eerie, but we had the place to ourselves (Magic Kingdom) It was an awesome day.

We had a fantastic experience with Hurricaine Wilma. We had to stay an extra day because of the storm and it started off that the parks were closed.....but then late morning, they opened Epcot and MK to ONLY hotel guests. It was like a day of EMH. Eerie but amazingly empty.
Anyway, I would say on balance, we've had more good rain-based experiences than bad. Best of luck to you!
