I'm here now and have been off site and now am on site. Here is my take on it. For all the persons stressed about one or the other stop stressing as I have found both are very good.
We started off with a condo on the beach and had a lot of room. Being beach front was great. The kitchen and washer and dryer were ok to have but not a big deal for us. Extra space was nice.
We then moved to the Hilton bonnet creek where we could get two rooms for the price of one Disney deluxe even factoring in the car and parking. The extra room was nice and the free breakfast perk was great. The lazy river is better than any Disney pool.
We are now at the GF in one room and that is fine too. I do find the Disney resorts have very little drawer space. It's nice to be on property and listen to the boats and be in the action. It is easier for the family to split up.
My conclusion is all the choices are good ones. Just pick what is most important to your family and choose resorts that fit those needs. I did really like the split stays as I got to experience the pluses of on and off site. I do recommend off site first only because it is easier to put stuff away off site with more drawers. And packing up to switch is easier.
