I know you mentioned your family growing to 5 - if that is the case for your trip, you would have to choose between CBR and POR as moderates to accommodate your party.

For the trip I've been considering end of August, only 4 of us would be going. That's why I've been thinking about CSR as normally it's not a fit for us. Way back when, we loved the pool and I have to admit I really enjoyed the pepper mill food court, so I'm trying to figure out if it's really gone downhill or is it just some people having different tastes.

Totally agree - it was our favorite resort in the past, loved the pool, esoespecia slide for kids, and quiet walk around the lake in the morning, and we're also happy with the Pepper Market. Never felt it was spread out, loved our location in Cabanas, close to everything, and only had trouble with buses to DS. Had friends there last year at beginning of construction who were happy for their first visit, but not sure now with more construction (can't even imagine restaurant in middle of lake!). Definitely would not want to be there with pool closed in the early fall. Afraid with the tower, restaurant , etc it will not be the same peaceful resort we loved

just back from cs. we stayed in a refurbished room which was great.no complaints at all on that. we were in casitas near bus stop 2 which was very convenient and the quiet pool there looked nice. the pepper market was awful and there was no food there that we thought was good. the pepper market also felt very grimy, the tables were sticky. we tried the sports bar and that was not good either. we have stayed at coronado several times in the past but will not stay there again. the dig site pool was extremely crowded but that is just the luck of the draw. the bus service was good sometimes and terrible at others. we waited 50 minutes for a magic kingdom bus and almost missed a very important adr. we literally ran to that adr once we got to the park. the bus arrival screen just kept showing every 20 minutes for that bus. i called twice from the phone box but got someone offsite on the other end. they did give us pins in the room as well as a credit because we skipped housekeeping once we requested it.

My friend that stayed with me at CSR absolutely loves the resort, and she can’t wait to return and for the construction to be complete to see all the new things - Especially the bridges across the lake in the restaurant on the lake. She loves the pool and the two custom alcoholic beverages they serve at this resort that you can’t get anywhere else, I think it’s the cucumber jalapeño margarita at Rix, and the raspberry daiquiri? at the pool.

She loves the atmosphere and the quiet nature of the resort, she only had a few problems with the buses during this last stay. The bus stop was actually very close to our room in 6B. I rented a car, I will never go without a car on Disney property. I get up early for rope drop and she sleeps in so she was stuck using the buses after she woke up. She waited nearly an hour for a bus at least twice.

She thought the food at Pepper Market was OK and Rix was very good. She was not bothered by the cleanliness level at the Pepper market, but she always stays at this resort, so maybe she’s used to it.

This is her absolute favorite resort and nothing will ever change that.

On a positive note there were things I definitely liked about the resort, the room size very nice, quite large I thought and even not having a refurbished room I still thought the room and self was very good. Unfortunately I never got to see the pool area because we had so much rain during our trip. I think my biggest qualm with the resort is the lack of “Disney magic”. There was nothing special about it for me, it was like an ordinary nice hotel. I barely felt like I was on Disney property. Zero magical moments. Zero magic in the atmosphere. Zero magic with cast members.

Also, so many business people around I think it ruined the atmosphere for me. I don’t want to see business suits and briefcases on vacation. The point of my vacation is to get away from all of that. Another thing is the seemingly high number of smoking areas right on the pathway around the lake to get to the main building. Every couple of minutes during the walk you have to walk through a cloud of cigarettes smoke because the smoking areas are on benches directly next to the walking path.

Gosh, I was tossing around the idea of a possible late August trip but have been reading a lot of negative Coronado reviews lately. First, does anyone know if the pool will remain open? I've heard beginning in September they are closing it for refurbishment.
We stayed here many years ago and liked it well enough, then our family grew to 5 and we haven't been back. But not only here, some other sites also have many negative reviews about Coronado, and the poor service. Some say it's turned them off to Disney entirely, Yikes!
Maybe I should consider CBR instead, though I would certainly miss a regular food court and small store, or I guess for a moderate the POR is pretty nice... decisions, decisions. Or ... maybe FINALLY make a stay at Contemporary? But I've heard that pool is just so so, and end of August we'd most likely be swimming a lot.
Sorry, didn't mean to hijack this thread, just got worried reading so much negativity about the Coronado.

Contemporary isn’t good for 5. We like it but it’s too cramped for our group. If you’re going to do deluxe do grand Floridian with 5.
