Here now: Beautiful weather; Very let down by Ohana

We also were not thrilled with our meals at 'Ohana during our last few trips, the most recent in March. We felt that the food quality was not what we have come to expect there and the service was lacking. What was once an automatic "must have" meal is now something I debate back and forth for weeks! You always hope that next time will be the way you first experienced it. I do have it booked for our next trip but the more negative reviews I read here the more I want to switch it. Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip!

For me, 'Ohana was never my favoite meal, but some experiences were better than others. I would always make it a prioity ADR because I am the minority in my family. They had never been disappointed. I was never "wowed". The last meal was a disgrace, and while every TS credit counts, they seem to be less painful than handing over cash, and that was all that kept me from heading over to a manager, something I have only done one time in over ten years.

We are giving this one a break for a while. I don't know if they have crumbled through all the Poly construction, because that kind of disruption has an effect on everyone who is impacted, or if they are just complaisant, moving tables in and out like cattle but with no "love", and believing their own hype will be enough to carry them through. Whatever it is, I have had enough. There are so many places to choose from, we think it is a good opportunity to try something new.

I will never do O'Hana again. I thought the food was amazing and would order take out in a heart beat, however the experience is excruciating. Everything about it! It was all we could do to stay the entire dinner, but really at that point what choice does one have? How do you eat anywhere else with no ADR? In this situation you have to just deal. It's too risky to try again. Anyway, we ended the night with two children sleeping through dinner and barely making the last bus to our resort. Imagine having to pay for a cab on top of a horrible night!? My husband would have exploded. If it were free to eat there I still could not talk him into it.

We love Ohana! I've never had a bad meal there and we do dinner there twice each trip. I think once we had not so great service and we told our waiter but that was it. I can't wait to eat there again this December. Sorry you didn't like it!

I truly believe that your restaurant experiences are different during Free Dining and not during Free Dining. We have night and day differences in our summer and fall trips. I would try Ohana again when there is no free dining for the public promo going on.

'Ohana is booked solid year round. We can blame a lot in fd but I think that it is not responsible for the experiences some people have reported. They have been discussed on and off all summer long

We loved Ohana when we had free dining. Meat was tender. All the food was really delicious......or maybe I just thought it was delicious cause it was free. :rotfl:

We tried Ohana for the first time this August. We were there for breakfast, and it was fantastic. We had a wonderfully attentive server, the food was served hot, and everyone loved the juice. In fact, that was one meal that everyone looked at me and said "book it again!" before we had even left. :)
(CRT didn't get that reaction... fwiw and yes, I do have a little princess:)

In August I thought everything was really good, the bread, the salad, the noodles, the wings, the potstickers, the bread pudding (YUM). The service was good. It's crowded and kind of hectic but so be it. Still fun.

But...the meat was not good. The beef was tough, the chicken tasted processed and cheap. I didn't have the shrimp, but my family said it was good so I guess I should give some credit there.

Not sure if we would go back because I don't think you can justify that price if the meat is low-quality but I would be tempted to go just to get the other dishes.

We also went to breakfast there in the same trip. We had a crummy table, I felt like the people on either side were on top of us, the tables were so packed in. Ridiculous really. The food was good though. The characters were really rushed but we don't mind that so much anymore as long as I get a picture.

I wouldn't write off the restaurant for eternity because of one bad experience. We've been to Ohana probably about 7 times, and we've always had a good meal, and never experienced those kind of delays. I would think that op's experience is the exception, not the norm.

Same here Tom, we've eaten there three times over the last five years and the food and service was great! Hoping you're right that it was an exception because we really enjoy the feast provided there. We plan on eating there again next summer.

In 13 yearly trips we have never been during free dining nor have we ever had a dining plan. We always POP so that would not be the reason in our case.

I agree that Free dining is not the reason. It is a scapegoat for a multitude of sins, and perhaps much can be laid on that promotion's doorstep, but I doubt the issues that some people have been reporting all summer when there was no FD is the problem.

We have eaten at O'hana about 7 times, It is one of the kids favorites. We were last there in July and boy was it an experience. I had arranged with the restaurant a special dinner. Our daughter had been away at boot camp and A school for the Navy and she was finally going to get to take leave. I wanted to have the meal during wishes, so that she could experience that. I booked a 9:30 pm reservation and was told the way they stagger their reservations, they could guarantee a great seat for our family to enjoy the show and visit with our daughter. We got there at 9:10 and checked in. We hung around the lodge. The younger kids were getting cranky and we were all starving. 9:30 comes around, nothing, 9:45 nothing so i check with the CM. they tell me it should only be a few more moments the other party was just finishing up their meal and then we would be seated. I asked for a different seat and I was told they were all being used. SO we waited...and waited...and waited and waited and finally at 10:42 pm we were seated. And as the party that past us left the wife was saying to her husband "see i told you they wouldn't kick us out, and we could watch the fireworks if we eat at 7:45" I was beyond pissed. And as if that wasn't bad enough, the service was horrible, the food was not good, and they were rushing us out because of the time. Finally my husband had had enough and he asked to speak to a manager. He explained to the manager what happen, and expressed how we didn't appreciate being rushed. He apologized and gave the kids and our daughter free ice cream which was nice but it as defiantly not the way we wanted to celebrate our daughter coming home.

I am so sorry. I cannot understand how the restaurant would even make such a promise, and to do so under these circumstances was reprehensible.

That's terrible and a free ice cream was not enough compensation for that IMO. Sorry that happened to you, I can see why you were disappointed.

We've eaten there several times and like many others---LOVED it. I was a fun experience and everything went very smoothly. Food was yummy and overall very, very good.

That being said, I totally believe the OP and others who chimed in with their negative experiences. I can see things going totally haywire there. It's packed, the servers are running around doing their best to keep up and sometimes it just goes off the rails. Can't recover. I'm fortunate that it didn't happen on one of our nights there, but you can tell it's a fine line.

We have eaten there three times and we absolutely love it. That being said, our service last time was borderline crappy. The server we had acted like she was annoyed every time she had to come to our table. We also went with empty glasses for a bit and the meat service was slow. The food is always so good! Just wish the service we'd had last time was better.
