Here now at GF - beach closed & new construction. FINAL UPDATE: Panoramic view of fence and rocks

Maybe they will create a sand barrier? Just a slight bump at the edge so the water isn't accessible, but the view is unobstructed. I'm probably crazy. I know. Lol

I also thought the rope was good enough, and not obtrusive. I hope the new barrier doesn't mar the beauty of the beaches. Too bad they had to resort to this after all these years. You'd think more descriptive signs would be enough to keep people out of the water and keep people safe. People just ignored the no swimming signs ugh.

Thanks for the update and pictures! We were just at Poly last week and thought the rope fence looked pretty good, actually. The signs were posted in abundance, on about every 4 poles. I might have better pics, but this gives an idea. I'll be curious to see what they do next.

Goodness. I was at Poly last week and thought the fence with rope and net was sufficient and not distracting from the ambiance.

From your lips to the Disney execs ears. I hate that they are messing up the views of all of the beaches. My daughter was set to do a pirate cruise at CBR on Sunday and we got an email Monday night telling us that the cruise was changed to Pirate Camp. No boats. No looking for buried treasure. The reason they gave was that they can't dock the boat on the beach with the beaches closed. They suggested we try Port Orleans Riverside since the boat doesn't dock on a beach there. I just wish we could go back to having nice beaches and that we could know people would stay out of the water.

Here's a picture from this evening. They have been trucking in sand all day, laying a black tarp, and then covering the tarp with large pale rocks. I'm thinking the final result may be nice.

That looks promising.

If they are building some sort of rock barrier, how will they keep people and kids from climbing on it?

Maybe it will be something like pics that were posted of an area at CSR where there was lots of rocks and plants to keep anyone from getting the idea that the area was meant for wading or swimming. I'm guessing they'll also throw in nicely themed signs about the wildlife in the lake.

I don't think there's a person on this planet that's going to climb on the rocks near the water now. And it's a pretty safe bet there will be signs spelling out why they shouldn't.

And, I happen to think, some will. Like most places, there's an attitude lately of "The rules don't really apply to me." I'm not saying there will be another attack, but you'd better believe people will sit on that wall, pose, etc. It's sad really.

I'm glad the fence wasn't the permanent solution. I think a small rock berm will be much better in the long run, especially with view and long term maintenance. Imagine how bad those fences would start looking once they started leaning a shifting from the wet sand after a few months. It'd be a visual nightmare.

Me too. I thought the rope fence was sufficient. Now everyone knows about danger
Yeah, one would think so... But I've been dealing with "the public" myself for many years, and I immediately noticed that the ropes would have a kid swinging on them in no time (wouldn't be surprised if it's already happened) and then there's just a matter of time until the next unfortunate accident is a fact. Doesn't have to be as horrible as the reason for putting the fences there, of course. But I believe that Disney is acting in the right direction in this case.

A permanent, iron or similar fence would hopefully be less inviting for child's play. :goodvibes

:tinker:

Cool! now my kids will have a rock wall to climb and run on.how fun..!!! did it myself as a kid

Can I sue Disney if the rocks are wet and one slips and breaks an ankle or slips into the water and gets hurt?
